EPISODE 61 - DISQUALIFYING YOURSELF FROM OPPORTUNITIES, HANDLING REJECTION, AND BEING BOLD!
LISTEN TO THE EPISODE HERE:
Today’s episode is a snippet from a great conversation Danielle had with a new podcast friend of hers, Dani from The Rooted Creative Podcast that we feel would REALLY resonate with you!
Danielle & Dani talk about the things that hold us back as entrepreneurs, they dive into the negative effects of comparison, self-doubts and disqualifying ourselves from opportunities, handling rejection, and being BOLD! You are going to be boldly encouraged by the episode, so, if you are needing a bit of a “pick me up,” this episode is for you!
The Negative Effect of Comparison
In today’s culture, we are constantly seeing the success of other entrepreneurs and businesses on social media platforms - platforms that tend to elevate the thief that is comparison. Comparison can be so dangerous, because, no matter the weight of your win, you can lose the joy of celebration in your success once you compare it to someone else's success.. It creates a looping lie of “I’m not enough” or “My products/services/offerings are not valuable.”
Self-Doubt & Disqualifying Ourselves From Opportunities
Because of the lies we find in comparison, we don’t believe we are qualified enough or successful enough to pitch that client or reach out for that collaboration.
We don’t even try because of:
a) fear of rejection or
b) fear of how others may perceive us.
Rejection & Being BOLD
Danielle and Dani encourage listeners to just GO FOR IT! If you don’t, you will always wonder what could have been. Running a business is a risk, and you risk rejection when you get outside your comfort zone but, if you never ask, then you’ll never get a “yes”.
The longer you are in business, the more you realize that your biggest fears (like being rejected or ghosted) are just a part of the process. Trying to avoid rejection while building a business will just slow down your process and stunt your growth!
Rejection is God’s redirection/protection. Rejection points you in the direction of your ideal clients and connections and brings you into alignment with the value you have to offer. There’s always something better on the other side of rejection - trusting that God’s timing is for you is hard to practice, but it is so rewarding.
Every time you do something outside your comfort zone, you plant seeds, and you will be able to look at it retrospectively and have gratitude for your boldness!

[00:03:21] Welcome to the business babes collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses. Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy, challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.
[00:03:50] Dani: I guess I wanted to ask, is there anything that you see, like a common struggle that you see with female entrepreneurs that come to your [00:04:00] events or are in your online communities that you just wanna highlight real quick?
[00:04:04] Danielle: Yes, for sure. Okay. There's a couple things. I think one is, I think for whatever reason, a lot of, especially people who have this big vision of what they wanna create with their business and, you know, they're very motivated, they're very entrepreneurial, right? I think that a lot of entrepreneurs, including myself, struggle with knowing what value they can provide and comparing their success to other people's success.
[00:04:36] And I think that that it's such a hard thing, because it doesn't matter how many wins you have in your business on like, oh, I just got a new client or, you know, I booked my dream wedding, like you were talking about, or I sold five people just bought my course, like, that's amazing. And then you go on social media and all of a sudden you're seeing, oh, this [00:05:00] person made, you know, a hundred K on their course and all of a sudden your win doesn't feel like a win anymore. And so instead of celebrating your own success, you are comparing it to someone else's. And so it just feeds into this loop of I'm not enough. I'm not good enough. My, my products, my services, my offerings, aren't valuable to this world, even though you've just had these incredible wins that you should be celebrating, but instead of celebrating, we're comparing our journeys to other people.
[00:05:33] And I think that that is one of the most challenging parts about being an entrepreneur right now, in this age where we literally see everyone else's success blasted in our face. yeah. 24/ 7. Yep. And so I think that is probably the biggest challenge. And then, the second one that I wanna touch on is because of that and because of the self doubt and because of the, not [00:06:00] feeling enough or not feeling ready or whatever that might be, we disqualify ourselves from opportunities before we even try.
[00:06:10] So we don't pitch that client, or we don't create that relationship or reach out to that person that we would love to connect with because. We feel like we should be further along or we feel like, well, what if they don't respond? What if they say no? What if they think I'm weird? All of these, I don't know, things come up where we just are fearful of rejection, I think, or fearful of what other people are gonna think about us.
[00:06:40] And I'm saying this because these are all feelings that I've personally had as well. And I think one thing that I really, when I look back on my journey and I look back on, even when I was getting started of things that I'm grateful that I did is that I was [00:07:00] terrified to, you know, reach out to people that I really admired or, you know, connect with that brand or that company that I really wanted to be a part of our events or what, whatever that was.
[00:07:13] But I did it anyways. I was like, you know what? This person might not reply. This person might reject me, this person, I might totally embarrass myself, but I'm gonna go for it because if I don't, I'm always gonna wonder what could have been if I were to just be brave for those, you know, five seconds.
[00:07:33] And I think the longer you're in business, the more you realize that being rejected and being ghosted and all like all the things that we're like so scared of happening, that is a part of the process. Like you, you cannot build a business and avoid that. And if you are trying to avoid that, you're literally just slowing down your progress because, you, you just, it's just a part of it. And like, [00:08:00] now it's like it is, or people say, no, I'm like, okay. Like whatever, that's fine. So yeah, I think just know that the people that are right for you, even if you get a rejection, thats - I've heard this this quote before where it's like, rejection is God's redirection or rejection is God's protection.
[00:08:18] And so that's just what I think I'm like, well, no, if He's redirecting me to this other path that I'm supposed to go in and that's okay. And there's someone else that I'm supposed to connect with that, you know, is more aligned and that's okay. Not everyone is going to, you're not gonna connect with everyone and that's okay because there's people specific people for you and those people will, you know, you're gonna build relationships and they're gonna be your biggest advocates and you're gonna be theirs.
[00:08:44] Dani: So yeah. I mean, if you don't ask, you'll never get a yes. Yeah, exactly. You will just like you'll have nothing. And so you have to take those risks. I mean, running a business is a risk. There's always a risk associated with that. But if you're just gonna [00:09:00] sit and just like, kind of be your own self critic, self sabotage yourself, or not propel yourself forward by asking those people to be a part of your business, or by asking them to collaborate or whatever, it looks like work with you, then that's like holding you back from like one of your greatest yeses and you would never be there if you didn't ask.
[00:09:18] So I love what you said about the rejection is just God's protection. Never thought of it that way. Um, and that's amazing cuz rejection-
[00:09:25] Danielle: it's not my quote, by the way. I don't know whose quote it is, so research it. I read it one time and I was like, oh my gosh, that's so beautiful. And it's so true because I think whenever we get rejected or there's always something better on the other side of it.
[00:09:45] And I think that if we would just trust that we are being directed and that, you know, if we just take steps of faith forward, that it might not be in our timing, the way [00:10:00] that we want it to happen, but whatever is meant for us will come to us eventually. And it'll be in God's timing. And I think that that's just, we just need to remember that.
[00:10:09] And it's, trust me. It's the hardest thing. Like I, I'm not super patient person. I think being a parent is teaching me patience, yeah, but I think it's just important to realize that, you know, know that you're planting seeds every single day, that you make a new connection that you take a bold step forward in your business, you do something outside of your comfort zone, you're planting seeds. And the more seeds you plant, some of them are not gonna turn into anything, but some of them are going to bloom and just grow. And you're gonna look back five years from now and be like, wow, I'm so glad that I planted that seed. And I'm so glad that I took that step because if I didn't this beautiful aspect of my life for [00:11:00] my business or my relationships would not have been there. And so I think. Yeah. It's just reminding ourselves that.
[00:11:06] Dani: Yeah. Amen. And I think, um, if you're listening to this and maybe you're thinking of taking a step or a risk or whatever, pray about it, but also if you don't again, if you don't try and you don't do it, then you'll never have a yes. So you have to try and you have to ask, I don't know.
[00:11:24] I think that's. That's like one of the wisest things that I needed to hear this week. So thank you for sharing that. And also just like the common struggles that a lot of women go through. Comparison is a huge one. And it's so sad that we kind of, we are the people that kind of put ourselves down the most in business.
[00:11:42] Like we are our biggest critics and I think like, Someone else's success shouldn't determine what your personal success is in your own business, because your business is different than that person. So I love that as well. And everything you said about that.
[00:11:56] Danielle: So I hope you enjoyed that snippet of our conversation [00:12:00] the conversation I had with Dani from the rooted creative podcast, go check out her podcast if you would like to hear the full interview, or if you would just like to check out podcast.
