The Challenges of Entrepreneurship

Being an entrepreneur is not without its challenges. There is so much that we need to work through when we grow a business. So much we need to learn and also ways we need to grow as a person, to become the leader and business owner we desire to be. When we go through these seasons, It’s so easy to think that we are the only ones that are struggling, on social media we see people who are “thriving” (air quotes) and seeing so much success. You know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE and social media does not tell the whole story.

Danielle has spoken to hundreds of Entrepreneurs and there is not ONE person she has talked to who has created a successful, thriving and profitable business who hasn’t gone through seasons of challenges, seasons of doubt, discouragement, and questioning - herself included.

She has learned some ways that have worked for her and for our community and is sharing those things with you today!

5 Ways to Get Out of a Rut

  1. Gratitude

Change your thoughts from focusing on all the things that are going wrong to all the things you are GRATEFUL for! If prayer is important to you, you can pray or you can just simply write down a list of all the things you are grateful for.

  2. Switch Your Environment

Do you usually work from home? Try working at a coffee shop or at a co-working space (Many have free (or very affordable) day passes for you to check it out!

  3. Change Up Your Routine

Sometimes we feel stuck and uninspired because we do the same things day in and day out - Change it up. Take a long walk mid-day. Start reaching out to people you haven’t connected with in a while and ask them to go for lunch or coffee. Instead of just watching a TV show before bed, go get an interesting book

  4. Do something Scary

There is no better way to get out of a rut than to do something outside of your comfort zone. Pitch someone (a client, someone to collaborate with) Connect with someone new, make a big Ask, Go Live or hit Publish on something you’ve been procrastinating on (Even though it's not perfect). Show up at that virtual or in-person event.

  5. Get in Community

Get accountability, have people around you who can support and encourage you. Find people you can brainstorm with and get feedback from.

[00:06:00] So let's go ahead now and get started with our episode today. So when it comes to the topic we are gonna cover today, I want to just share with you that being an entrepreneur is not without its challenges.

[00:06:12] I mean, you guys know this. If you've been in business for a week, a month, a year, several years, you know that there is so much that we need to work through when we're growing a business so much that we need to learn, not only tangibly, like the skills that are necessary and the education that's necessary to actually run a successful and profitable business, but we also have to grow as a person, right?

[00:06:38] You know, this, you have to get outside of your comfort zone. You have to do things that you haven't done before. And sometimes emotions come into that and having this positive attitude in this positive mindset, it's not always easy, especially when we come up with challenge after challenge after challenge, right?

[00:06:57] So to become the business [00:07:00] owner and the leader that you truly desire to be, and I know if you are listening to this podcast, you are that person. You are someone who values education. You are someone who values growth and values becoming someone who can run a successful profitable business. And maybe you already are running a successful profitable business, but you want to take that business to the next level, or maybe you're on the journey to create that profitable business for yourself, wherever you're at in the journey, it doesn't matter.

[00:07:32] We all go through these seasons. We go through seasons where everything is amazing and we're experiencing wins and successes, and it's all amazing and it feels like we're in this incredible momentum. And then there's also seasons that we feel like we're struggling. And we see also people on social media and we see them, in air quotes, thriving, and seeing that they're having so much success.

[00:07:58] But I will let wanna let [00:08:00] you know that if you are feeling discouraged or you feel like you're a failure, maybe you just did a big launch for your business and you spent so much time preparing and, you know, you put so much time and energy into it and you launched and maybe nobody bought. Maybe you did something outside of your comfort zone and you reached out to someone that you really wanted to connect with and they never responded or they said, no.

[00:08:25] There's all these things we experience as entrepreneurs that can feel really defeating. And it's so easy to just think to ourselves like, man, is this really worth it? Is it worth me putting in time to grow this business? Is it truly something that I wanna pursue? I wanna also remind you that, you know, when we look at other people, whether it be on social media or wherever, and we're seeing them have these big successes, I wanna remind you that social media is not telling the whole story.

[00:08:54] I've spoken to hundreds and hundreds of entrepreneurs, and [00:09:00] there is not one person that I've talked to who has created a successful thriving and profitable business who has not gone through seasons of challenges and seasons of doubt, discouragement and questioning.

[00:09:14] Every single person that I've talked to that has built a successful business has gone through this, these seasons. And in my 10 years of being an entrepreneur and being in the entrepreneurial space, I faced so many of these seasons and I remember specifically one particular moment where I felt so stuck.

[00:09:33] This was after several years in business. I knew my business had the potential to grow and evolve, but I honestly felt like I was in a rut. I felt like the passion wasn't there anymore. And I think the reason I felt that is because I had just been hustling, right? I had been putting in so much time and effort and energy into my business and I kind of got on this hamster wheel of just doing the same thing over and over and over again.

[00:09:59] [00:10:00] And I wasn't, I, I wasn't really seeing the results that I wanted to see. And, you know, from the outside, actually, everything looked like it was thriving. We had grown our Vancouver chapter. We were hosting events, we were hosting monthly events. I had hired a team. We were launching into new markets, new cities, opening up chapters. We had started our online community and that was growing.

[00:10:20] But if I'm completely honest, I was so burnt out and so tired. And I did not know how it was gonna be possible for me to continue to grow and scale the way that we were growing and scaling at that time and I knew something needed to change, especially because I knew that eventually I wanted to have a family. I knew that, you know, being a mom was going to change my schedule. And I knew that I wanted to run a business alongside being a mom, but I didn't really know what that could look like because, at the time, I was working so many hours that I didn't, it didn't seem possible for me to actually create this business with tons of flexibility and [00:11:00] freedom.

[00:11:00] And so I knew something needed to change and I felt really stuck and I didn't know how to get unstuck. The reason why I wanna do this podcast episode is because obviously since then, I've learned so much, so many things, over the last, and that was, I guess, probably about three, no four years ago now I've learned so many things that now have worked for me and for our community as well, and things that I've been able to share with them.

[00:11:26] So I wanted to share some of those things with you today. So let's start with number one, which is gratitude. When you can be grateful for all of the things that are happening in your business, even though there might be a lot of things that are happening that feel like failures, that feel like it's disappointment or discouragement, or you know, things that are not going your way, I can guarantee you that there are things that are happening within your life or within your business that you can be grateful for. And this changes [00:12:00] your thought pattern and it focus, it allows you to focus on what is going well, and it allows you to focus on the possibility and opportunity instead of focusing on the negative.

[00:12:12] And it's so important as a business owner to focus on those amazing things, because if we're only focused on the negative, really, it's going to put us into a spiral of negative thought pattern. And what we think about is going to affect what we do, right? Because if we are thinking negatively, then we're not going to actually do the things and take the action steps that are gonna bring us closer to our goals.

[00:12:38] Instead, we're gonna hide away. We're gonna retract. We're going to hibernate and not create new relationships and not pitch ourselves, or put ourselves out there. How you feel about your business and either the negative thought pattern that's around your business or the positive intent and, and the gratitude and the excitement [00:13:00] that is going to help you get out of a place of discouragement and into a place of inspiration.

[00:13:07] So, if you want to journal your gratitude, so whether that be, and this could, you know, start out really difficult and I promise you the more often you do it, the easier it gets. I would highly recommend actually keeping a gratitude journal somewhere where you can write down every single day things that you're grateful for.

[00:13:26] And it can be things in your personal life, it can be things in your business, I encourage you to think about both and. Have it as a practice, whether it be before you go to bed at night, it could be right at, you know, the first thing that you do in the morning. If you have a faith or if prayer is important to you, I encourage you to give thanks and give gratitude to God for the things that are happening within your life or within your business. If not, write it down and just feel that gratitude and focus on those things that are going well, instead of focusing on the things that are not going well.

[00:13:59] [00:14:00] Okay. Number two is switch your environment. So this one is really practical. It's literally switching where you work. So if you usually work from home, try something different, try it working at a coffee shop, or maybe even a co-working space that has an inspiring environment. A lot of co-working spaces actually have free days. So you could get a day pass, which sometimes is free for your first one, or it's really affordable, where you can just check it out.

[00:14:28] And often, you know, just being in a new space and a new environment can create that inspiration and allow your brain to think about things differently, instead of just being in the same desk, looking at the same wall, out the same window every single day, switch up your environment, go somewhere new. Maybe even go somewhere without your laptop, just with a notebook and start writing down your dreams and ideas for what you wanna see in your business, in the future.

[00:14:57] Sometimes just getting out of that environment [00:15:00] that you're usually in can make such a huge difference. Now, if you cannot get out of your environment, let's say you are a mom, like me, and you are working during nap times. Hello, that's me as well. You know, you can switch up your environment in other ways. So maybe you are gonna take your laptop to a different part of your house.

[00:15:18] You're gonna clean, you're gonna make sure that that desk or wherever you are putting your laptop is clean. You are going to maybe light a candle, make yourself some tea. Maybe you're going to, you're gonna diffuse some essential oils maybe, and just make that experience for yourself, more enjoyable as you're working.

[00:15:36] Maybe you wanna listen to some music! For me, I actually cannot listen to music that has any words while I work or else I get distracted. So if you're like me then put on something in the background that's instrumental. I love listening to instrumental worship music while I'm working. It is so inspiring for me and it keeps me focused. So find something that works for you and just create that [00:16:00] inspiring environment for yourself as you're working.

[00:16:02] Okay. Number three is change up your routine. So sometimes we feel stuck and we feel uninspired because we are doing the exact same thing day in and day out. I encourage you to switch it up. So that could mean taking a long walk in the middle of the day. It could mean starting to reach out to people that you maybe haven't connected with for a while and asking them to go for lunch or go for coffee.

[00:16:27] Instead of maybe watching TV before bed, maybe just, you know, if you have a spouse who, you know, they love TV and you know, that's something that you do together, ask them like, Hey tonight, would it be okay if instead of watching TV, before we went to bed that we read a book? Maybe we, you go to the library together, or you go to a bookstore together and both pick out a book that interests you.

[00:16:47] See you, or, you know, listen to a podcast that inspires you. Hopefully it's this one, right? do something different and change up your routine. If you're used to doing the same things over and over every single day, [00:17:00] switch it up, do something different. Get outside of your comfort zone. Also changing up your routine could be something.

[00:17:06] This could look like going to a spin class for the first time and doing something that is outside of the norm for you could get you reinspired and kick up that motivation for you inside of your business. Even if it has nothing to do with your business. I find, often, what ends up happening for me is when I am doing something that has nothing to do with business, whether it be going for a long walk on the beach or going for a bike ride, or, you know, hanging out with Rosie at, on the swings at the park. that is when I, I think of my most creative ideas. And so, again, like I said, switch up your routine, do something different. You never know what kind of inspiration can come from that.

[00:17:49] Okay. Number four is do something scary. In my opinion, there is no better way to get out of a rut and to get out of this place of [00:18:00] discouragement, disappointment than doing something outside of your comfort zone. So this could be pitching someone. It could be pitching a client, pitching someone to collaborate with connecting with someone new, potentially making a big ask, going live on social media or hitting, publish on something that you've been procrastinating on. Even though, you know, it might not be perfect, but that's okay.

[00:18:23] It could be showing up at a virtual event or an in-person event. Connecting with someone new, networking, whatever that might be that's outside of your comfort zone. That is a huge way that you can actually break this cycle of a discouragement and disappointment is doing something new, doing something scary outside of your comfort zone.

[00:18:43] Number five. The final tip that I have for you today to reignite inspiration and motivation is to get in community. I don't want you to skip over this one, you guys, this is so important. I think often we can think to ourselves. Okay. Yeah, I get it. [00:19:00] Community is important. We don't actually do anything about it.

[00:19:03] You guys, get accountability. Have people in your corner who can support you and encourage you and lift you up when you're feeling discouraged. That is why I believe we're created for community is because when we are alone, when we are lonely, we can let our thoughts take over. And often our negative thoughts take over and we start repeating lies to ourself.

[00:19:27] Like we're not good enough. We're not smart enough. We don't have what it takes to succeed in business. So that's why we need other people around us who en, who can encourage us to say, no, you are capable. You do have what it takes. You can push through these challenges to have people around us who can reinspire and re spark our excitement for what we're doing.

[00:19:51] I know this is such a huge thing that has happened within our community, both our action takers club and our mastermind is people [00:20:00] have rallied around each other and encouraged each other to say, Hey, you do have what it takes. Remember this win that you were celebrating a few months ago, look at all these amazing things that are happening for you.

[00:20:11] Look at what you've already accomplished. Sometimes we just need other people in our lives. We need community around us to reinspire us. And I know a lot of times we get stuck in our own heads and sometimes we don't know what the next step is to take. And all it takes is for other people to hear what we're going through and hear are challenges and then speak to it from their unique perspectives.

[00:20:36] And that's something that I love so, so much about being in a mastermind. Masterminds are such an incredible way where people can actually have intimate knowledge of your business and what you're going through, the challenges that you're going through, and then they can speak to that and they can help you brainstorm and keep you accountable and all of that.

[00:20:57] And so if you are looking for a [00:21:00] community, it doesn't have to be our community, but if you are resonating with this and you're like, Hey, I would love to be in community. And I think this is the community for me. We would love to have you a part of ours, go to businessbabescollective.com/mastermind. If you wanna apply for our mastermind, we would absolutely love to see your application come through.

[00:21:18] And like I said, we can book a call together and I can share with you whether I think it's a good fit for you or not, if I think you're gonna be a good fit for the mastermind. And if not, maybe you're not at that stage yet, I will give you some suggestions of other places you can look for community or what might be the next best step for you and your business.

[00:21:38] So if you already have a community, amazing! Invest more in that community that you're in, if you don't have a community, come join us. We have an incredible group of entrepreneurial women who are inspiring, who are doing amazing things who are pushing past their fears, who are going after what they want.

[00:21:57] And it's so cool [00:22:00] to surround yourself with other people who are doing things that are outside of their comfort zone, cuz it ends up inspiring you to do things that are outside of your comfort zone. Thank you so much for listening to this podcast episode. Thank you so much for being here. Again, just a reminder, our applications for a mastermind are only gonna be open for a couple of weeks here. So go to businessbabescollective.com/mastermind. Get your application in, even if you're not sure if it's. For you get your application in so we can connect with you. And I can't wait to get to know you more. I can't wait to get to know your business and I can't wait to support you on your next steps of growing your successful, sustainable profitable business.

[00:22:41] We will see you in the next episode. Thanks for being here. And we'll talk to you very soon.
