Take a Social Media Break
Are you trying to show up consistently on social media for your business? If you are in a season of burnout there is nothing that makes it worse than seeing what everyone else is doing on social media. Some ways to take a break:
Offload apps between working hours
Outsource social media work
Pause social media for a while - this can be for just one day, the weekend, or as long as you need.
Start Saying NO
It is tempting to continue to add things to your calendar, but remember, you are making room to say “yes” to the things that really matter. Take time to evaluate what you want to say yes to.
Take Time to Rest & Sleep
Take care of yourself - you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time off, and get away if you can.
Get Support
Ask for help! This could be from family, a counselor, a coach, or a community! Find the people who love and care for you and want the best for you, and allow them to work in your areas of need.

[00:00:00] Danielle Wiebe: Do you feel like you're currently lacking motivation? Maybe you feel like when you wake up, you feel just so exhausted and uninspired, and maybe you find yourself wondering if you're even cut out for entrepreneurship altogether. If you're feeling this, first of all, you are not alone. And second of all, it doesn't mean that you're not cut out for entrepreneurship.
[00:00:20] It may just mean that you've hit burnout. And this is what this episode is all about. This is how to do a business reset and how to reignite your passion as, as an entrepreneur. Burnout is something that should not be taken lightly, but there is hope so if you listen to last week's episode on Thursday, you'll know my experience with burnout.
[00:00:42] So I'm coming from a place of experiencing it myself. And if you haven't listened to that episode yet, I highly recommend listening to it. We talk about all of the ways you can actually avoid hitting burnout. So, if you feel like you need a business reset, maybe you feel like you need time away from the day to day of your business so that you can start to [00:01:00] dream again and reignite your passion as an entrepreneur, then today's episode is for you. Let's go ahead and dive in.
[00:01:08] Welcome to the business babes collective podcast. I'm your host, DanielleWiebe. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs, so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses. Let's dive in, as we discussed the wild, exciting, crazy, challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.
[00:01:38] Welcome back to the podcast. Thank you so much for being here. I am so excited to spend this time with you, and I'm really excited for us to talk about this topic of burnout. It's something that we often I think ignore in business and we don't like to admit that it happens to us, but it's something that is so prevalent in the entrepreneurial space.
[00:01:57] Um, so how do you [00:02:00] know if you are in a season of burnout? Well, there's some signs and you might be like, Danielle, I don't even need you to tell me, like, I know I'm in burnout right now. I know for sure I am burnt out. But maybe you're like, I don't really know, like what, what are the triggers? What are the, what are the feelings? We talked about this a little bit last week, but I wanted to just reinforce some of the things that you might be feeling if you are burnt out.
[00:02:24] So you probably feel uninspired to work on your business. You feel exhausted. Your brain is not working at its full capacity. You feel like you're forgetting a lot of things. Maybe you find yourself even feeling resentful for your business. And you're almost thinking of like, Hey, I might wanna quit. And I want to preface this.
[00:02:44] There are potential reasons why maybe you do wanna quit your current business. Maybe you wanna pivot, maybe you wanna be doing something else. Now burnout sometimes is a good reset, a good business reset. Even though I, I, burnout is really, [00:03:00] really hard. I am not minimizing the effects of burnout because they're, they are quite serious.
[00:03:05] And again, in the, in the past episode, on thursday of last week, if you haven't listened to that episode yet, it's the last episode that we recorded before this one, I talk about my experiences with burnout and how it affected me, but also some of the change that needed to happen because of it. So what I want for you is I want you to know that if you are in that season of burnout, There is hope.
[00:03:29] There is hope for you. And this can be the moment where you make a decision. You make a decision that you need to be running your business differently. So let's just go into some of the ways that I think, and some of the strategies onto how to have a business reset and how to reignite your passion for your business.
[00:03:47] First and foremost, you need to stop what you're doing and you need to take time to rest first. You can't just do a business reset, reignite your passion. If you were in a season of [00:04:00] burnout, first, you need to rest. That is the absolute number one thing that you need right now.
[00:04:04] You don't need more hustle. You don't need, you know, more time to just work more on your business. You need that time to rest. So what I would encourage you to do the first step would be carving out that time. Make this a non-negotiable. So cut out all unnecessary things from your calendar. What can be rescheduled to a future date? What can you cancel? And it is okay to cancel things you've already committed to, especially if your health, your physical and your mental health is suffering.
[00:04:34] It is okay to cancel things. As I said, in the last episode, I had to cancel an event. When I was in a season of burnout, I had this event that I had been planning for several months and I had to cancel that event. It was event that I was very excited about and I had to cancel it and I had to refund anyone who had purchased a ticket. That was very, very difficult for me. I had never canceled an event before. And in my mind, I saw it as a [00:05:00] failure.
[00:05:00] Now I do not see it that way. I do. See it as a failure. I see it as, as a necessary thing that I needed to do for my own physical and mental wellbeing. That is what I want you to think about. Okay. What are things that maybe you've put on your calendar that you can reschedule? What are some things that you could also potentially cancel?
[00:05:19] How can you ask for help? That's another big thing. Are there people in your life that you could maybe ask for help? Maybe it's a spouse. Maybe it's a friend, maybe it's a family member who can you ask for help with whatever it is on your plate? So you can take some things, you can start to take some things off your plate, whether that be cooking dinner or doing laundry at home maybe that is part of your work that you need to actually delegate or take off your own plate, whatever that might be. How can you ask for help?
[00:05:48] The next thing that I wanna talk about is social media. Take a social media break. If you are in a season of burnout, social media is the last thing that you need to [00:06:00] be active on. If you are trying to show up consistently on social media for your business, and you're in a season of burnout, there is nothing that can make it worse than seeing what everyone else is doing.
[00:06:09] And I know there's been seasons for me, where I have had to take time off of social media. Now, maybe that looks like taking an entire month off of social media. Maybe it means taking a day or a weekend off, right? It doesn't have to be super drastic, but take those breaks because when we are always on social media, we're always connected.
[00:06:31] We're, you know, always comparing our journey to someone else's, whatever that looks like. Or we feel that pressure to always be active. It is not good for our mental wellbeing and it's not good, especially if we are burnt out.
[00:06:43] Another point is start setting boundaries and start saying no to things. I know it is so tempting to continue to add things to your calendar and, trust me, mine hand is raised. I am someone who used to really not be [00:07:00] able to say no to things. And I've actually gotten a lot better over the past few years that really setting those boundaries and knowing what are things that I want to say yes to? What are the things I wanna say no to?
[00:07:12] and then the next stage, once you've gotten things off your plate. You've rescheduled things. You've canceled some things you've asked for help. You're taking a social media break, right. So you're carving out that time. then take the time, take the time to rest. Take the time to sleep, take care of yourself, take care of your own health. And that is not only your physical health, which is very important, I agree, but also your mental health, right?
[00:07:41] Maybe that means seeing a counselor, maybe that means talking to a friend that you really trust, just about the things that are going on in your life. Maybe that means talking to a mentor that you really, that you really admire that can help you with, with, with talking through some of these things.
[00:07:57] Maybe it's a coach that you have that you just say [00:08:00] like, Hey, I would love to just have a call with you and talk through some of these struggles that I've been having. A lot of times taking that time to actually work through the things that are going on our mind and the stresses and anxieties that we have and just speaking it out is so helpful.
[00:08:16] Another thing that's so helpful is to journal. So if you're, if you're not a big journaler, I'm, I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a huge journaler. I find writing sometimes exhausting, and that's why I love a podcast because I can just speak and can do, you know, the transcriptions and the show notes and all those things, but I'm more of like a point form type person.
[00:08:35] But even if you're not a journaler, how can you potentially wake up every morning and just write down your feelings? Like, how are you feeling? What are you grateful for that day? What are some of the things that you're struggling through? And use that as a way to get those things out.
[00:08:50] What I've suggested for people before, because I have actually coached some people through this, through their seasons of burnout. And one of the things that they say to me, [00:09:00] their biggest kind of excuse when it comes to taking this time to rest and to sleep and to, you know, um, take care of themselves is they say, I don't have time.
[00:09:10] Now, this one is a really tricky one because the, the fact of not having enough time to rest has contributed to the burnout in the beginning. But I understand that mindset and I understand sometimes it takes a while to get kind of out of that hamster wheel of just doing.
[00:09:27] So if it feels more realistic to you, carve out an entire weekend where you can just do absolutely nothing. No plans, no things that you have to do. Don't set yourself a goal of, you know, cleaning your entire house and doing laundry or anything like that. No, this weekend is for you to rest.
[00:09:46] Now, if you can go away somewhere. If you have that capability or you have the resources to actually get out of your own home and take the time to just actually rest and be in another environment, [00:10:00] then absolutely do that. But I understand that's not available for everyone. So if you have kids, um, or, you know, you're just financially, you're not able to leave and go and do something, then just stay at home.
[00:10:11] And again, it's back to that getting support from other people, uh, whether that be a spouse or someone to say like, Hey, I just need this weekend to just do nothing. I need to rest. I need to sleep. I need to, maybe journal or read, delete the apps from your phone. Don't be, don't be doing work on your laptop. Like hide your laptop somewhere else. You know, really get that accountability. That is a good start. Just being completely disconnected, just having that time and space to just rest.
[00:10:40] So that's where I would start because sometimes when we are in that season of burnout, we really do need like a hard reset and we need that time to just completely shut off and not be connected to anything so that we can actually gain our thoughts back and, and gain that, reignite that [00:11:00] passion back into our lives and back into our businesses.
[00:11:02] So if it feels overwhelming to take a really long break from your business, then just start with a weekend. And see if you can grow from there. And then again, starting to create some of these boundaries around your time, getting things off your plate and really being proactive about that.
[00:11:19] Once you've had that time to rest, once you have taken the time away from your business, and maybe you can even do this during your rest period, if you feel inspired to do so. If you don't feel inspired and you just need that time to rest do that. But, you know, keep a notebook beside you. Keep a notebook with you during this time of rest and start to journal some of the things that pop up for you. Maybe it's ideas, maybe it's inspiration. Maybe it's just wonderings. Like, Hey, I wonder if I could do my business in this different way. I wonder if I could run my business in a different capacity than I'm running it in right now.
[00:11:56] I know for me, this was a huge moment when the [00:12:00] pandemic hit. And, um, I told you guys about the fall of that year and it was really that time of like, feeling so overwhelmed and so confused. And I didn't really know. And so I took that season of just taking that time to rest and really trying to figure out.
[00:12:13] Okay, what do I want my business to really truly look like? What do I want my life to look like? Personally and professionally? And also it was reconnecting with my why? Like, why did I start my business in the first place? Is this really something that I wanna do long term? And if you know the, the way the business is structured right now, if it's not something I wanna do long term, how can I pivot it? How can I change into something that I do love and something that I'm excited every morning to wake up and to do with my business?
[00:12:44] And I'm very happy to share that now what I'm doing right now in the business really lights me up. Like I get so incredibly excited every single time I think about like recording a podcast episode or interviewing someone for the podcast, [00:13:00] collaborating with other people, coaching inside of our action takers club or running our mastermind or working one on one with, with my clients and hosting these VIP mastermind days that we're doing now. And all of that.
[00:13:11] Like, I absolutely love this season that I'm in and what I'm doing in my business. But there was definitely those seasons where I did not love what I was doing. And I felt really overwhelmed. And the, and the scary part of it is that I felt like I had to just continue doing what I was doing, because I felt like that's what people expected from me.
[00:13:31] And I didn't know how I could get out of that cycle of just doing things again and again, and again, even though it wasn't working for me, it wasn't working for my lifestyle. It wasn't working for the life that I wanted to create. And you know, the fact that I wanted to have kids and start a family.
[00:13:48] And so the fact that I get to do what I love now, really that came from a sense of taking that time to really dream again and reimagine the business and what the business could be. [00:14:00] Because I think sometimes we just, we we're so caught up in the day to day that we don't even think about like, what could I do differently? What if I could create this other reality for myself that allowed me to live the lifestyle that I want to, and to be really present with my kids or to, um, travel the world or whatever your passions are, right?
[00:14:21] We just assume that, okay, we're in this business and we're, we're doing what we're doing and we, we don't really question it. And so this, the purpose of taking a step back, the purpose of really taking that time to rest is reevaluating your values, reevaluating what you want your future to look like, reconnecting with your why and reconnecting with the reason you started your business in the first place.
[00:14:43] We have actual modules about this inside of action takers club. So if you're feeling still a bit lost and you're like, okay, I totally get this, but like, I need a structure. I need like someone to tell me exactly what questions to ask myself. I need to like really. Dig in and dive in, [00:15:00] then join us inside of action takers club.
[00:15:02] There's a whole structure to how we create our goals. It's reconnecting with your why it's, you know, creating a vision for yourself. It's creating goals and a roadmap and all of those things. So if you need that support, jump on in, we love, love, love to support you in. But either way, I really do hope and pray that if you're in this season, If you're in a season of burnout and you're like, I don't even know how to get outta this.
[00:15:28] Take these tips that I shared with you today. Take that rest. Make sure you are taking time for you so that you can become the best version of you again, so that you can serve your clients. You can, be present for your family. You can be present for yourself. You can get excited again and passionate about what you're doing.
[00:15:48] I promise you that you can reignite this passion for your business, that you can be excited again. I know right now it feels heavy. It feels a lot. You feel like you're trying to dig yourself [00:16:00] out of a huge hole that you've created for yourself, but I promise you it it's possible. I have dug myself out of the hole that I had created for myself.
[00:16:09] So I know it's possible for you. So, thank you so much for listening. I'm so grateful for you. And I wanna just encourage you, like you are doing an amazing job. If you're listening to this podcast, you are a go getter. You have big goals and you have big dreams for your life. And I want you to know that you are doing an amazing job.
[00:16:28] You're moving forward in the right direction. And even if you feel right now, like you're stuck, you feel like wow, what am I doing? Like what I'm doing isn't working. I don't, I don't know. Like, I feel overwhelmed with all the different things that I need to do in my business. Just give yourself permission to just rest, give yourself permission to take care of yourself first before you take care of your business.
[00:16:52] So before we end off, I just wanted to invite you, if you are ready to take that next step, if you're like, okay, I've been listening to [00:17:00] your podcast, Danielle, for a while now, and I'm ready for the, that next step.
