105 - Overnight Success? Slow Growth vs. Fast Growth

LISTEN TO THE EPISODE HERE:

Have you ever felt like you were behind? Like your business isn’t growing fast enough? Maybe you’ve felt discouraged or even have been close to quitting because things are not falling into place as easily as you thought they would.

We sit down to talk about the concept of overnight success and the difference between slow growth and fast growth!

The Truth About Overnight Success

We are often confronted with the false narrative that, when we launch our businesses, we should be seeing immediate success. And then if we don't, we believe that we are not cut out for entrepreneurship or we just see ourselves as a failure. There’s nothing wrong with you or your business if you don’t experience overnight success.

Consistency Is Key

Success comes from consistent small steps that we take towards big goals. It’s about being patient, persistent & consistent with the things that people aren’t seeing, the backend, the connections, the everyday things that lead to success.

Success is achieved over the long term, through consistency, building connections, and investing in your education and resources

Comparison vs Practicing Gratitude

Remember - success is defined by YOU and the journey to success is not linear.

There’s a purpose for every season in your business. There will always be peaks and valleys. It’s ok to have valley seasons. Growing pains are the learning part of success! Slow growth is more sustainable for the long term since you are planting seeds by creating systems and relationships that support growth.

Comparison is a thief. Remember, those people you look up to have a lot of experience under their belts! Don’t miss out on celebrating your gifts and purposes but looking at other people! Remember to recognize and celebrate how far you have come! You are on your own timeline and journey. Practice gratitude and watch how your life and business aligns with your definition of success.

[00:02:06] Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses. Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy, challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.

[00:02:36] We are surrounded with this false narrative that when we launch our businesses, we should be seeing immediate success. And then if we don't, we either are not cut out for entrepreneurship or we just see ourselves as a failure. And we're really marketed to constantly with this promise of having success overnight.

[00:02:58] And we start to [00:03:00] believe that if we don't see success overnight, there's something wrong with us. And this concept of overnight success could not be farther from the truth. And I hope you've been able to see this through this podcast, through the content that I share personally and also through the guests that I have on.

[00:03:21] I hope you are starting to understand that success actually comes through consistent small steps that we take towards those bigger goals that we have. And it's really about being persistent. It's about being patient and about working the plans that we have and continuing to learn more and educate ourselves and create systems for our businesses.

[00:03:47] And those are all the things that truly are not necessarily the sexy things that we do in business, right? It's a lot of the behind the scenes things that people are not seeing. And it's, a lot of the [00:04:00] times, the things that people are not seeing. The things that we don't post on social media, it's the one-to-one connections that we're having. It's the emails, it's the day to day things that we're doing in our businesses that are often leading us to what we would consider success.

[00:04:16] Right. And really also, I know we've talked about this a lot on the podcast too. Success is whatever you define it to be. Because success for you might also look different than success to someone else. And this is only achieved after years of consistency and putting in the work and building connections and relationships, collaborating with others, investing in your education and resources that you need to grow.

[00:04:41] And the entrepreneurial journey is also not always linear. That is something really important to recognize that, often as entrepreneurs and as business people, we have peaks and we have valleys along the way. I know this has been definitely the case for me and so many [00:05:00] other entrepreneurs, especially during 2020, when we were forced to completely reimagine the business and pivot the business, and it's okay to have those valley seasons.

[00:05:12] It is okay. There's nothing wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with your business. And it might just be that you're going through these growing pains so that you can learn the things that you need to learn in order to experience the success on the other side of that. And what I have found too, from talking to a lot of other entrepreneurs, is that it really is that slow growth that contributes to that sustainable, long term growth that actually helps you scale faster in the long run because you're setting up these systems, you are planting seeds, you're building those relationships, and sometimes what happens is when people experience a lot of really quick growth, they're not able to sustain it the way that they would have been able to sustain it if they were able to [00:06:00] set up those things ahead of time.

[00:06:01] And so just know wherever you are at in your journey, there's a purpose to it. And know that most of the people you look up to are not more capable than you, and they might just have been working at their craft longer. And likely they've had to overcome more setbacks, more failures, and more challenges than you have yet.

[00:06:20] So keep going, keep learning, keep growing. Keep taking that consistent daily action towards your goals. And I think it's important to also recognize how far you have come, because often what we do is we look ahead and we see how far we have left to go and we don't recognize the steps that we have taken so far and how far we've come from where we be began from.

[00:06:48] And so even if you are just getting started, the fact that you have started to dream about your business, putting plans in place, that is a huge win of its own. If you've been in business for years and [00:07:00] maybe you're feeling discouraged, or maybe you feel like everyone else is growing at a faster pace, know that you're on your own timeline, you're on your own journey.

[00:07:08] And we need to understand that overnight success is often 10 plus years in the making. I know for me personally, I have spent way too much time comparing my own journey, comparing myself to other people thinking, why have I not been able to accomplish that yet? Or why is it seeming to happen so quickly for this one person and not for me?

[00:07:31] And I know that when I do that, I'm unable to be grateful for all of the amazing things that I have happening in my own business and my own life. And so I want you to focus on your own journey. Now, you don't have to believe what I believe, but I personally believe that God has a purpose and a plan for each one of us.

[00:07:50] And if we are so focused on what other people are doing, what someone else is doing, we miss out on our own purpose, on our [00:08:00] own unique skills and gifts and talents that we've been given that will allow us to thrive in our own businesses and in our own live.

[00:08:08] So I hope this episode was encouraging to you. I know that this episode was not technically super tactical. It wasn't like a how to, you know, five steps to this, which is usually what our episodes are about. They're super tactical and tangible, but it's more so an encouragement and a pep talk that hopefully you really needed.

[00:08:30] And I want you to just recognize that the small steps that you're making consistently Do make a difference. Keep going. You got this and I am here cheering you on every step of the way.
