LISTEN TO THE EPISODE HERE:

Today, Danielle is sharing five simple habits she is committing to for January that she believes will have exponential results in her life and business. Her chosen word for the year is "Energy" because she wants to have more energy for the important things in her life such as her family, friends, and work.

Recently, she and Brent did reflections and goal-setting together, which was detailed in Episode 125 - go tune in if you want to lay some groundwork for the exercise yourself! Danielle and Brent did the exercise together after she had already completed it on her own, and she found that different things came up when she shared and spoke it out loud with someone close to her. If you want to get the most out of this exercise, you should try it with a spouse, trusted friend, or family member.

One of Danielle’s breakthrough realization was that, in order to achieve some of the goals that she has set for myself in 2023, she will need to adopt some new habits. Instead of committing to an entire year with these new habits, she’s decided to just focus on these Habits for January! In February, she will re-evaluate and re-commit to the habits that she feels are serving her, and adjust accordingly.

We hope that sharing these Habits inspires you to either choose your own habits that can help you achieve your goals!

  1. Commit to consistent bedtime & wakeup time

Danielle has committed to be in bed at 9:00pm and waking up at 5:30am. This helps to start the mornings less tired and more productive!

  2. No TV for January

This helps to be more intentional with evenings and helps support a consistent bed time habit.

  3. Drinking water and eat vegetables or fruits with every meal

If you have a goal to be healthier, make sure it’s something tangible that you can actually accomplish!

  4. Moving my body for 10 min a day (minimum)

10 minutes may not sound like much, but it’s important to have an attainable goal that can open the door for more activity!

  5. No phone or Computer Allowed in Bed

By banning electronics from bed, this leaves space for reaching goals like reading more books or journaling consistently.

So there you have it, those are Danielle’s 5 Habits she’s committing to for January!

TRANSCRIPT

[00:00:00] Danielle: Happy New Year friends, I hope you are having an amazing start to your year so far. I am so excited for this start of 2023, and I hope you are too. And if you're already feeling a little overwhelmed or behind, please just know. At any point in time, it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, doesn't matter what day of the week it is, you can always start fresh.

[00:00:23] Danielle: I do love the start of a new year because it's just a natural time to reflect on the past year and also looking forward to a. Clean slate and a brand new year, and it's a really great excuse to really do things differently and think about what we want in our lives and in our businesses. And so I really love January.

[00:00:45] Danielle: It is one of my favorite months because it just feels like there's so much opportunity. And so I wanted to share with you today five simple habits that I'm gonna be committing to for January that I know are going to. Exponential [00:01:00] results in my life and in my business. So my word for this year is energy.

[00:01:05] Danielle: I want to have more energy for the things that are most important to me, my family, my friends, my work, Brent and I did our reflections and goals setting together recently. By the way, if you haven't listened to that episode yet, I really encourage you to do so. It is episode 1 25, and I walk you through the entire process.

[00:01:24] Danielle: Of questions you can ask yourself to really just reflect on the year and ask yourself what went well, what didn't go so well? What did you learn? What are you proud of? And also things that you wanna let go of. And then goals and intentions that you have for the new year, for 2023. So feel free to listen to that episode if you have not already.

[00:01:48] Danielle: And I also highly encourage you that if you've already. Maybe by yourself. Do it again and do it with a friend, a spouse, a family member, because [00:02:00] different things will come up when you share your goals and you share your reflections when you speak them out loud to someone else, and you can kind of bounce ideas off of someone else as well.

[00:02:10] Danielle: So one of the things that I realized is, When I did this the second time, there were some goals that I had set for myself for 2023 that I knew that I needed to adopt some new habits for. So instead of committing to an entire year and overwhelming myself with these new habits that you know, I'm gonna say, okay, for the next full year, 12 months, I'm committing to these five things.

[00:02:35] Danielle: I decided to just commit to. Just for January, so in February I'm going to reevaluate and either recommit to these habits if I feel like they are serving me, or I will adjust them according to what I feel like is beneficial for me for the next month. So, I personally really like these kind of shorter term commitments or goals when it comes to [00:03:00] building in habits for myself, especially when it's things that I'm not used to doing and it's something that's new or things that are new for me.

[00:03:07] Danielle: I really like to commit to a short period of time, and then at the end of that time period, I can either recommit to those same habits and those same. or I can shift and change. And so I wanted to share those things with you. And I hope that me sharing these habits that I'm committing to inspires you to either choose your own habits or if you want to, you are more than welcome to copy and paste these habits for yourself and commit to them for yourself as well.

[00:03:36] Danielle: So I hope you're excited. I'm excited. Let's go ahead and get. Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Weep. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it [00:04:00] took to grow and scale their businesses.

[00:04:02] Danielle: Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy challenging rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship. All right, I'm gonna jump straight into my five habits that I'm committing to for January of this year. So number one is going to bed at 9:00 PM every night and waking up at 5:30 AM So the reason for this habit is I was starting to find that in the last few months of the year I was not ending and starting my days the way that I wanted to.

[00:04:31] Danielle: I was feeling super tired. Sluggish in the mornings and I feel like I was kind of rushing to get my day started and it always felt like I was starting my day already feeling behind. And I know probably a lot of you can maybe relate to this is you start the day already feeling. Defeated in some way. And so the reason I've chosen 5:30 AM as the wake up time is because this gives me one full [00:05:00] hour before Rosie normally wakes up.

[00:05:02] Danielle: So for those of you who are new here, Rosie is my daughter. She's 18 months old now, and she normally is. Waking up at about 6:30 AM so that first hour when I get up, I'm going to be making my coffee in the morning, and then sitting down with my journal and also devotions and doing some prayer and journaling and devotions to start my day.

[00:05:25] Danielle: The first 20 minutes to 30 minutes of the day. After that, I'm gonna be committing to. 30 minutes completing one task that is really gonna move the needle in my business. And so I'm starting the day, you know, getting my mind right, getting in the right head space and starting my day with a thing that is most important to me, which is prayer and journaling and devotions, and then moving into something that will already.

[00:05:49] Danielle: Have me, how to have a win for my day. So doing something specific that is actually gonna move the needle in my business. So an example of this could be sending out a newsletter or [00:06:00] an email following up with a client or a collaborative partner sending out a pitch, whatever that is. Something that is actually going to move the.

[00:06:09] Danielle: Business forward and really be a profitable task for me. So it's not gonna be like checking social media or doing anything like that. It's something that is going to be strategic in helping me move the business forward. That is number one. Number two is no TV for January. So this one was a pretty easy one to cut out, to be honest, because this is something.

[00:06:33] Danielle: Brent, or those of you who are new? Brent is my husband. We're committing two together and the reason it's simple right now is cuz we don't really have anything that we're watching right now. We actually have canceled basically all of our TV subscriptions. We don't have Netflix right now and we don't really have any extra subscriptions for a tv.

[00:06:51] Danielle: So it's a really good time to just be like, Hey, we don't need to be watching tv, especially on weeknights. And so to cut that out for January was just sort of [00:07:00] an. Commitment to make and also just using our time more wisely. So whether using that time to tidy up before the day begins the next day, using that time to read or get some work done or spend some quality time together.

[00:07:15] Danielle: So I'm really excited about this one because also it's just gonna give us more time back to do things that actually really matter and not wasting it on tv. Okay, number. Three is drinking water and eating vegetables and fruits with every meal. So I wanted something super simple that I knew I could accomplish.

[00:07:34] Danielle: So I find that, you know, just saying eating healthier to me, it just feels so vague. Like, what does that look like? What am I specifically eating? ? Um, so I tend to overthink it, but I know. Eating vegetables or fruits with breakfast, lunch and dinner is totally doable. So whether that be vegetables within the meal itself or fruit within the meal itself or on the side regardless, just having [00:08:00] vegetables or fruit or both with every single meal of the day, and also drinking water as well.

[00:08:07] Danielle: Okay. Number four is moving my body for 10 minutes a day minimum. Again, this is something that is similar to the one I just talked about. It's something simple that I know I can accomplish. So 10 minutes sounds like pretty much nothing , but it's not so much that the plan is just to do 10 minutes cuz I. I think that often what it will turn into is it'll turn into about 30 or even 45 minutes of moving my body, whether that be a walk or whether that be, you know, stretching, whatever that looks like.

[00:08:37] Danielle: But at minimum, I know I'm gonna be getting 10 minutes and it just seems like 10 minutes is more achievable and just seems less overwhelming for me. So I'm excited about that commitment as well. The fifth and final one is no. or computer allowed in bed. So this is something that my husband and I are doing together.

[00:08:58] Danielle: Pretty much what that means [00:09:00] is we can have books or notebooks or anything other than like basically electronics in bed and. One of the things I have really wanted to commit to for a long time is just reading more books, and I've tried to make goals of this in the past, like read, you know, two books a month or whatever that is, and I've made those goals really.

[00:09:25] Danielle: Sort of unattainable for myself. Not to say that I can't make those happen, cuz absolutely if I committed to that I could, but for me it was too overwhelming to, you know, commit to a certain amount. So what I am excited about is committing to not having electronics in bed, whether that be computer or.

[00:09:45] Danielle: forces me to have another thing such as a book, which will encourage me to read more than I'm currently reading now. So I'm really excited to dive into some books that I've been wanting to read for a long time. Either books that I have not [00:10:00] yet read that are just sitting on my bookshelf. waiting to be picked up or books that I've already read that I love that I want to read a second time.

[00:10:09] Danielle: I find a lot of the books that I have that are specifically business books or personal development books, I really like reading them couple years after I've read it the first time, cuz I find I get so much out of it the second time around. So if I really enjoy a book, I love reading. For the second time.

[00:10:28] Danielle: Okay, so there you have it. Those are my five habits that I'm committing to for January. I am really excited on how these habits are really going to help me get some EC exponential results. I know that just those simple things, those simple habits that I'm implementing, it doesn't seem. like a lot. But I know that those simple tweaks are gonna have such a huge impact, not only in my personal life, but also my mental state, my emotional state.

[00:10:58] Danielle: I know I'm gonna get more [00:11:00] sleep, which is gonna affect the energy levels that I have, which is gonna have a ripple effect in all areas, including my business. So, I am really excited and I will definitely keep you all updated with how things are going with my habits for January, and I would love to hear from you.

Something completely different or has any of these commitments that I've made inspired you to make commitments as well? I would love to hear it.
