130 | Already Given Up on Your Business Goals for the Year? How to Stay Motivated When You Experience Challenges!
LISTEN TO THE EPISODE HERE:
Let me ask you something. It's almost halfway through January… have you already given up on your business goals?
Here's what I know to be true (at least for me)! The classic line that we all say as soon as January 1st hits every year: "This year is going to be my year! I'm going to finally keep my commitments to myself and reach my goals!" We start off the year strong the first few days, but then life happens. We get sick, we spill an entire cup of coffee on our laptop (Hi, that's me if you missed our previous email, I shared the whole story!), our childcare falls through, or a new season of our favorite show gets released on Netflix and we end up binging the entire season in one night. Then all of a sudden, we wake up and it's mid-March and with defeat and disappointment we think to ourselves "Oh well... I guess this isn't my year after all" and we give up. But what if we could ACTUALLY experience the type of breakthrough year we've been dreaming of?
What if this COULD really be your year? In this most recent episode of the podcast, I share how to keep going when you have setbacks and moments of doubt.
Here's the truth - when we set BIG GOALS for our businesses, life is going to happen, challenges are going to come our way and we will have times when we want to give up and throw in the towel.
But we have to remember that setbacks are a normal part of the process.
If you’ve been listening to the podcast for the last few weeks, you know that we shared an episode on New Years Goals and Reflections and we also shared with you 5 commitments that Danielle making for January! If you haven’t yet set goals, these episodes lay out a great framework for setting big goals and how you can actually set yourself up to succeed!
Are you ready to hear strategies on how to stay motivated and also what to do when you face a challenge or hit a roadblock?
How do I stay motivated?
Take Care of Yourself - Get enough enough rest and sleep, eat lots of fruits and veggies, drink enough water, move your body intentionally every day and spend time doing things that bring you joy and fill your soul! Don’t forget to take care of yourself because that is the only way you are going to have energy to actually take action on your goals.
Finding accountability is KEY! Find community, coaches and groups that you can check in with on a regular basis!
Celebrate your Micro-Wins - It is so easy to only see the Big Goal and miss all of the little things you are doing on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to make those big goals happen. Take time to celebrate each and every day the small milestones that are leading you to the finish line.
What to do when you Face a Challenge or hit a Roadblock?
It is inevitable that you will have challenges and roadblocks on your way to achieving any goal. Remember that setbacks are a normal part of the process.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are facing a challenge:
Take a step back -Think, what can I learn from this? How is this challenge making me a stronger person, business leader, entrepreneur. How do I want to show up in the face of adversity?
Seek out Support - This is really where your support system comes in. Whether it's a business coach, a mentor, a mastermind you are a part of an accountability group. This is when you need their support. Don’t be afraid to use it and ask for help!
Take one small step forward. It’s natural to want to throw in the towel when things don’t go your way. Remember why you started, why this goal is important to you and take one small step forward and re-commit to daily action that will lead you to where you want to go!
When the chaos of life knocks us off course, let’s be the type of leaders and business owners who pivot, re-focus and get back on track!
If you are currently feeling stuck, uninspired or If you are currently find yourself repeating the same patterns you’ve been in for years…you have two choices:
Stay stuck and frustrated trying to figure it out all on your own.
Take Action! Get support and help from entrepreneurs who have gone before you and can help!

TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:00] Danielle: Often when we start a brand new year, we get really excited about a clean slate, and we think to ourselves, okay, this is gonna be the year that I finally keep my commitments to myself and I reach my goals. So we start off the year super strong, and then after a few days, life starts to happen, right? We get sick, we spill coffee on our laptop.
[00:00:26] Danielle: By the way, I'm saying that because I literally spilled an entire cup of coffee on my laptop. If you're not on my email list, you gotta get on there cuz that's where I share fun things like that. Um, you know, our childcare falls through or a new season of our favorite show gets released on Netflix and all of a sudden it's mid-March and we feel defeated and we feel disappointed in ourselves and we think to ourselves.
[00:00:55] Danielle: Oh, well, I guess this isn't my year after all, and we give up on our goals, [00:01:00] but what if we could actually experience the type of breakthrough this year that we have been dreaming of? What if we could actually have this year be our year? Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast.
[00:03:04] Danielle: I'm your host, Danielle Weep. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies. On how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses.
[00:03:22] Danielle: Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship. If you are a regular listener to this podcast, you know that for the last few weeks we've been releasing episodes. Uh, we released one before New Year's, just about New year goals and reflections. And I also shared with you recently my five commitments that I'm making for January.
[00:03:51] Danielle: And you know, I just feel so inspired about this year because I know that it's gonna be a [00:04:00] big year both in the business as well as in my personal life. If you guys didn't hear, I am pregnant with our second baby, which is due, um, at the end of April and we are just getting so excited and you know, I'm just feeling really excited about the change and the growth, but I'm also just.
[00:04:20] Danielle: So grateful. So grateful for where our business is today, and the fact that I'm able to have that flexibility to be able to take time off and also have the business continue to run, even though I'm not gonna be active in it during that time. The reason I wanna share that with you as well is because the first time around when I was pregnant with Rosie, who's now just over 18 months, I remember feeling a lot of anxiety around taking time off.
[00:04:53] Danielle: I remember feeling like, oh my goodness, my business is gonna fall apart. And I just had all of these emotions and feelings around it. [00:05:00] And I, the reason I wanna share that on this episode specifically is because I had some really big goals. The first time around when I was pregnant with Rosie and there were so many challenges and so many hurdles that came my way that I didn't really expect, and I had these big goals that I wanted to accomplish so that I could take that time away, and I just remember feeling like.
[00:05:29] Danielle: Oh my goodness. It would be so easy to just throw in the towel. It would be so easy to give up. But I used the strategies that I'm gonna be sharing within this episode, and I kept going and I took small steps and I really was able to implement some of the things that I wanna share with you today. And so I really hope this encourages you.
[00:05:50] Danielle: And if you haven't, by the way, listened to some of our past episodes, we have a few episodes kind of leading up to this episode that I think will be really helpful for you as [00:06:00] far as goal setting and creating commitments for yourself and all of that. So if you haven't listened to those episodes, go back in, listen to those as well.
[00:06:09] Danielle: Okay, so here's the truth. Life is gonna happen. Um, roadblocks are going to come your way on the way to your goals. You're gonna have times where you really wanna give up. And I wanna share with you some of the strategies, tactical strategies on how to stay motivated, and then also what to do when you do face challenges and hit roadblock blocks.
[00:06:33] Danielle: So first of all, how do you stay motivated? So I wanna share with you three tangible ways that you can. So number one is taking care of yourself. This might seem super obvious, but I wanna get really practical here. I'm talking about getting enough rest and sleep at night. I'm talking about eating lots of fruits and vegetables during the day.
[00:06:57] Danielle: I'm talking about drinking lots of water, moving [00:07:00] your body intentionally every day, and spending time doing things that. Bring you joy and fill your soul. Don't forget to take care of you because that is the only way you, you are going to be able to have energy for actually taking action on your goals.
[00:07:18] Danielle: If you are waking up exhausted every day, if you're feeling drained, if you're not getting enough sleep, or you know, you're not fueling your body the way that, um, you should be fueling your body. You won't be able to achieve the goals that you set for yourself because you're not gonna feel good. So that's what I mean about taking care of yourself, getting enough rest, taking care of your health.
[00:07:42] Danielle: And this has been a big struggle of mine to be honest with you. Um, and that's why, again, listen to the episode that I did on the five commitments that I've made for January, because in that I talk about just really, really, really simple things that I'm doing, um, for the [00:08:00] month of January to really help.
[00:08:03] Danielle: That I can take care of myself. And it, it's been so amazing. It's been, uh, 10 days of doing those things, and it has really, honestly changed the game for me. So I encourage you to set those commitments for yourself. All right, number two is finding accountability. I don't know any leaders or coaches, especially in the entrepreneurial space who don't talk about the importance of accountability.
[00:08:33] Danielle: It is one of the most vital things that has helped me achieve success in my own business, and I know that without that, I would not have the business that I have today. It is. All thanks to the community that I've surrounded myself with, the coaches that I've hired, the groups that have been a part of the Masterminds that I've invested in.
[00:08:57] Danielle: Honestly, it's so [00:09:00] game changing when you can surround yourself with other people who are also going for big goals. It is. So incredibly inspiring and really it's so motivational cuz when you can see other people achieving things, it really helps you to get back on track and if you're feeling low, they can pick you up and, and make you feel better and encourage you or remind you of your strengths.
[00:09:25] Danielle: All of those things are so important and that is what accountability is for. So if you don't currently have accountability, highly recommend surround yourself with people who can really support you there. Number three is celebrate your micro wins. It's so easy to see the big goals and miss out on all the little things you're doing daily and weekly and monthly to.
[00:09:51] Danielle: Really lead up to those big goals. So take time to celebrate in each and every small milestone that is leading you to [00:10:00] your finish line. Alright, now let's talk about what to do when you face a challenger. Hit a roadblock. So, Like I said, it is inevitable that challenges are gonna come your way when you try to achieve your goals.
[00:10:12] Danielle: So remember that setbacks are totally normal and they're a part of the process. So here are a few things to keep in mind when you're facing a challenge. Number one is take a step back. Take a step back, take a big breath, and think, what can I learn from this? How is this challenge making me a stronger person?
[00:10:37] Danielle: A better business leader and a more resilient entrepreneur. Also ask yourself, how do I want to show up in the face of adversity? Now, when I first started my business, you guys, I did not handle challenges well, I will be totally honest, and there's definitely been many times along the journey where I have just [00:11:00] let the challenges and the roadblocks take me out really, and.
[00:11:06] Danielle: They've kept me really from, from moving forward and hitting my goals. And, you know, one thing that I am really, really focused on this year is to expect the challenges and to expect the roadblocks. And when they come asking myself what I can learn from this and how this is going to make me better, and, you know, we need persistence, we need tenacity, we need, um, grit.
[00:11:36] Danielle: In order to be a successful entrepreneur and when challenges come our way, it's just a great opportunity to practice those things, right? So think about it that way. Think about it in a way of these are all things that are preparing me for the success that I want to achieve. And so that's what I want you to do.
[00:11:56] Danielle: First is step. Take a step back, take a moment. Think, what can I [00:12:00] learn from this? Number two is seeking out support. So this is where your support system comes in. This is where your accountability comes in. So again, whether that is a business coach, a mentor, a mastermind, an accountability group that you're a part of, whatever that is.
[00:12:16] Danielle: This is when you need their support, and don't be afraid to connect with them. Ask for help, ask for support. They're there to help you. They're there to support you. So show up and ask for the help. Don't be afraid. To make a bold ask because the people that ask for things, those are the people that get the things that they want, right?
[00:12:42] Danielle: So what are you holding yourself back from, and why are you not asking for support, right? When you know that that person or that community, whatever that is, is there to support you, why are you not asking for the help or asking for the support? Okay. Number three is [00:13:00] take one small step forward. It's supernatural to wanna give up, like I said, wanting to throw in the towel when things don't go our way.
[00:13:09] Danielle: But really take a moment, remember why you started. Remember why this goal is important to you and what is the result of what this goal is going to give you. And then take one. Tiny small step forward and recommit to daily action that is going to lead you where you wanna go. So those are my strategies and tips for you today.
[00:13:34] Danielle: I hope this episode was helpful and encouraging. When the chaos of life knocks us off course, let's be the type of leaders and entrepreneurs who pivot and refocus and get back on track. So if you are currently feelings, Stuck. If you're currently feeling uninspired or you're currently just finding yourself like repeating the same patterns that you've been repeating for years, [00:14:00] really you have two choices.
[00:14:01] Danielle: Number one, you can stay stuck, can stay stuck. You can stay frustrated, trying to figure it out all on your own. Or two, you can take action, you can get support, you can get help from entrepreneurs and people who have gone before you and that are there to support you and that are there to help you. So I want to invite you to take action with me.
[00:14:25] Danielle: So whether that is finding a community of other entrepreneurs that you can surround yourself with, We would love for you to join our community. Our Action Takers Club program is incredible. There's amazing, amazing entrepreneurs and women in there that are just waiting to connect with you, network with you, support you.
[00:14:44] Danielle: And again, we have monthly coaching in there. We have a monthly networking and of. Course, the amazing course material in the Facebook group where you can connect with other people in there as well. And I also want to invite you to join me for the online conference, the [00:15:00] Business Breakthrough Conference that is happening on January 30th.
[00:15:05] Danielle: And you guys, this conference is not only about giving you the strategy and tactical tips for your growth, but it's also to be able to surround yourself with a creative entrepreneurial community. And give you access to these other entrepreneurs who have been where you are and they understand the challenges of scaling a business.
[00:15:27] Danielle: So it's gonna be not only tactically really incredible for you to, you know, figure out what strategies you need to get you to that next level of business, but also it's gonna be incredibly inspiring and encouraging for you as well. So don't miss your opportunity to be there. Clear your schedule on January 30th.
