The Power of Commitment

I'm happy to report that my commitment to my new morning routine has been going really well. Rather than striving for perfection, I've focused on improvement and it has made the journey more enjoyable. Tune in to learn how I've challenged myself to stay committed and maintain a positive mindset throughout.

Waking Up Early - Key Tips

One of my challenges was waking up at 5:30 every weekday morning. I'm excited to share that I haven't missed a single weekday so far. However, consistency with going to bed early has been a bit more challenging. Discover the tips I've learned for waking up early and staying energized throughout the day, including the importance of keeping your phone away from your bedside table.

My Morning Routine

In this segment, I'll take you through my morning routine, highlighting that it may not be perfect every day, but it's what I strive to accomplish each morning. From waking up to turning off the alarm, washing my face, and enjoying a cup of water before anything else, I'll share the steps that set a positive tone for my day.

Embracing Growth and Intention Setting

Join me as I discuss my favorite morning devotional, "Seasons of Soap" by Horatio Printing, and how it has influenced my journaling and prayer routine. Additionally, I'll introduce you to an incredible app called Growth Day, which offers an audio session and journal prompts to kickstart your day. I'll also explain the importance of setting three top priorities for the day and how it enhances productivity.

Adapting to Change

I discuss the challenges of maintaining my morning routine with the recent change in my daughter Rosie's waking time. Despite the adjustments I've had to make, I consider it a win as I no longer base my waking time on hers. I'll also mention the possibility of re-evaluating my routine for February and potentially waking up even earlier.

[00:00:00] Danielle: Welcome back to another episode of the podcast. Today I want to share my brand new morning routine with you. So I shared on episode 128 my five simple habits that I have committed to for January, and if you miss that, feel free to go back and listen to that. And I promised I would give you guys an update on how it was going and I'm happy to report that it's going really well.

[00:00:29] I'm not striving for perfection on these commitments, just improvement. So it's making it a fun challenge, uh, for myself to keep committed to the things that I committed to on that episode. So one of the challenges that I set for myself for January was to start waking up at 5:30am every weekday morning.

[00:00:52] So this is actually a big deal for me. For those of you who don't know me, I normally am very much a night [00:01:00] owl. I'm not a morning person, or I have told myself in the past that I'm not, not a morning person, but I'm happy to report that, for this particular challenge, I have not missed one weekday yet.

[00:01:13] Now I haven't been consistent with going to bed early, so I'm trying to get better with that. so that I can stay energized throughout the day. But in this episode specifically, I'm gonna be sharing about my morning routine. And again, it's not perfect every single morning, but this is what I am attempting to do when I wake up. So let's go ahead now and dive into the episode.

[00:01:38] Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe. in this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and. On how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses. [00:02:00] Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.

[00:02:08] So my biggest tip, if you want to start getting up earlier, is to put your phone in another room. I'm gonna be honest, you will not be able to wake up your early, or it'll be extremely difficult for you to wake up early if your phone is right beside your bed. And I don't know about you, but I find it really, really tempting that if I cannot sleep, if I'm trying to get to sleep at night and I can't sleep, if my phone is right there on the bedside table, it's so easy for me to just pick up my phone, start scrolling, and sure enough, you know, half an hour, 45 minutes, I'm still on my phone and it does not help me go, go to sleep, right?

[00:02:53] For some reason, we have this weird idea in our heads that if we, oh, I just need to like write down a few things that I need to [00:03:00] do tomorrow, and then I'll get off my phone and I'll go to sleep right away, and that'll help me sleep better. But I don't know about you, but for me, that never, ever works. It's also so much easier to hit snooze if your phone is right beside your bed.

[00:03:15] It's just way too tempting. So for me, I have been putting my phone, uh, on the charger in the bathroom and setting my alarm for 5:30. So, that is my biggest tip if you're interested in actually waking up earlier than you're waking up now. So first thing in the morning, my alarm goes off at 5:30 AM every weekday morning, and I immediately, without even thinking, get outta bed.

[00:03:42] And I go to my phone and I turn off the alarm, and then I start my routine. I start my morning routine. So I go to the washroom, I wash my face, I put on my cream, and then I also go and get a cup of water and drink that before I have anything else. [00:04:00] The reason for that is because, you know, when we sleep, we're super dehydrated.

[00:04:04] So it's really good to be able to have a glass of water before you have your coffee or anything else, and that is not something that I was doing before either. So I'm really trying to stack my habits. If any of you have read the book, atomic Habits, James Clear talks about stacking your habits. So for example, you know, the habit that I am trying to really solidify is getting up at 5:30 AM and then the habit of getting out of bed in the morning right away.

[00:04:36] And then right after I go to the washroom and I wash my face, I drink a full glass of water. And so it's kind of this like, automatic thing that I'm starting to do in the morning without even thinking about it, because I have done it for the last couple of weeks. And so it's, yeah, it's been really great. So after that, after I drink my water, I do make myself a cup of coffee, and then [00:05:00] I go to the couch.

[00:05:01] I get cozy with a blanket, a new blanket that I actually got for Christmas. So I cuddle up with that and I start my morning devotions. So I'm currently really, really loving, it's called Seasons of Soap by Horatio Printing. I will link them in the description in case you wanna check it. it's awesome and it has prompts to do some journaling.

[00:05:25] So I do that. I do some journaling and I do some prayer, and then after that I set my intentions for the day. So after I'm done, my devotions, after I'm done my prayer and spending some time with God in the morning, I am also loving this new app that I've recently found. And I will link this in the show notes as well For you. It's called Growth Day, and maybe some of you have heard of it before, but there's a new audio every morning, they have journal prompts. Um, It's really all about kind of personal development [00:06:00] as well, and so I really like doing that after I do my devotions and kind of setting myself up for the day. And so yeah, you, I think you can get a free trial of it still. So I'll put everything in the show notes so you can check it out if you're interested.

[00:06:14] So after I do that, I write out my three top priorities for that day. So it's the three things that I know are going to actually move the needle for me within my business. And so after I choose what those top, top three priorities are I start working on one of those priorities right away. So I try to make those things simple things that I can get done in 10 to 15 minutes.

[00:06:44] And so sometimes I can actually get one or two of those things done within that 30 minute period. So this could be sending out an email, it could be doing a follow up, it could be connecting with someone, it could be finishing something, [00:07:00] um, that's really important for my business, whatever that might be.

[00:07:04] and in an ideal world, between 5:30 and 6:30, I would have that uninterrupted time and I would say like the first week I think, or the first maybe week and a half, that was exactly it. I had from 5:30 to 6:30 an uninterrupted time. Rosie would usually wake up at about 6: 30. However, Rosie has started to wake up earlier now, so for whatever reason, I don't know if it's cuz she's hearing me or she's seeing the light on or something like that, but she's actually waking up at 6:00 AM.

[00:07:39] So this morning, for example, I only got halfway through my morning routine. I had just finished my devotions and prayer when she woke up, woke up. I'm still counting this as as a win, though, because before I was doing this morning routine before I was waking up at 5:30, I would just wake up whenever [00:08:00] Rosie woke up. So, um, or you know, Brent would go get Rosie and I would sleep in, whatever that looked like.

[00:08:05] And so I wasn't doing any sort of a routine before this. So even though, you know, I might only get that half an hour, I'm still counting it as a win. I will have to reevaluate for February. I'll keep you guys in the loop on what I do there, but I may just have to start waking up at 5:00 AM. We'll see.

[00:08:25] I don't know, like I said, if it's because she's hearing me, I'm being really, really quiet by the way, um, and trying not to make. any noise at all. But I don't know whether she just has like this sixth sense that I'm, I'm up and she wants to now wake up. So anyhow, I will keep you guys updated on how that is all going.

[00:08:47] So overall, like I said, I am loving my new routine and I just wanted to share that with you guys because I'm always curious at, you know, other people's routines and again, this might be a great routine [00:09:00] for you. You might wanna switch it up and do something different. Whatever you can take inspiration from my morning routine and curate it to your own morning routine that you absolutely love.

[00:09:11] And the thing that's really cool about it is that I actually really look forward to waking up in the morning because I know I have my routine. I know what it's gonna look like and I can actually get excited for it. So I really encourage you, whenever you are planning to wake up in the morning, have that buffer time before you have to leave for work or before your kids wake up or before whatever the responsibilities of the day, um, are.

[00:09:39] Because I think it just makes such a difference to your mindset and to your emotional state in the morning. And so yeah, I hope that was just encouraging and helpful for you. So I would love to hear from you. Do you currently have a morning routine? If you do, I would love to hear about it. You can DM me [00:10:00] on Instagram.

[00:10:01] I'm over @danilivinglife. There's a link in the show notes as well. And yeah, it's come DM me. Let me know you were listening to this episode and tell me about your morning routine. Or if you don't have a morning routine but you're wanting to implement one, I would love to hear what you think you might want that to look like as well.

[00:10:21] So again, I hope this was helpful for you, and I wanted to also remind you about our Business Breakthrough Conference that is happening January 30th and 31st of this month.
