So in the meantime, let's go ahead and dive into this juicy episode today. Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies.

[00:03:17] Danielle: On how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs, so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses. Let's dive in. As we discussed the wild, exciting, crazy, challenging rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.

[00:03:37] Alisha: When I hear a breakthrough, I think of clarity and it's ongoing clarity and entrepreneurship as well. It's not just a one and done thing either because we evolved so much as business owners and that. Changes all the time. And so just even thinking about my breakthroughs and even stepping into this hospitality space along with CPG brands. Yeah. I feel like clarity is a huge one. And knowing that [00:04:00] clarity looks messy to breakthroughs look messy as well. And that's totally okay.

[00:04:06] Holly: I created theme days of how to run my business because I had very little time, eight to 10 hours a week. And most of that was 6 a. m. for me because of my kids age and pandemic and all the things and I didn't want to get up and be like, okay, you know, it's six to seven.

[00:04:22] Holly: It's my time to work and then not know what to do. And so I created theme days so that I could just keep myself on track. And it was so simple that I didn't have to think. So it was like every Monday is a content day. Every Tuesday is podcast day. Every Wednesday is connection day. And I have literally followed that to a T for like three years. And the reason I think it's such a breakthrough is I always say consistency trumps talent.

[00:04:48] Shay: So you should always pay yourself. And how much you should pay yourself is going to be subjective for every business. And so the kind of method that I like to use is first, you need to note how much money does your business need to run every single month?

[00:04:59] Shay: So like [00:05:00] the operating expenses. So you need to know that number. Then you need to know how much do you need. to reinvest into your business every single month to get to the goal that you have. Keep enough in the account for operating expenses, put about 10 percent and the savings every single month and then make sure that you have enough to keep yourself afloat for the following month and the balance is all yours.

[00:05:18] Shay: But I always say pay yourself because you don't want to get to a point in your business where you're working, working, working, you're not getting any type of return because then you'll start resenting the business.

[00:05:26] Laura: One of the biggest things I see with reels is people are always trying to get new people. So they're like, Oh, I just need to make a bunch of reels so I can get new followers. So I can get new people and grow my account. It's so interesting because you can see like in my own experience, I've seen it with my clients is your existing followers. People who already follow you also are watching your reels.

[00:05:43] Laura: They also want to see more behind the scenes. They also want to connect with you on the level that you can connect with video. You know, in a way you can't on static content. So I think there is this misconception that reels are only for growth and for like brand awareness and getting new people in, but they're really a great way to connect with an existing [00:06:00] and warm audience.

[00:06:00] Laura: So that's something I want to encourage people to kind of shift their mindset on.

[00:06:04] Mary: I am a big believer that overnight is overrated. And my scientific theory says there's a correlation between how fast you blow up. to how fast you'll fizzle out because the character's not there, the foundation's not there, the grip muscle is not there.

[00:06:18] Mary: 15 years of running a business, every time something new and hard happens, I rely on the 15 years of strength training that got me here. Flowers can be annual or perennial. They can create something beautiful for a season or beautiful reliably year after year, and that's important. The world needs more beauty.

[00:06:37] Mary: But I think for all of us, the greatest calling is to become a tree. A tree grows higher and up and up and up the dizzying heights we could ever imagine. And it is a thing of beauty in and of itself, but it is never satisfied that its work be left to something pointing inward. It's not satisfied until it's shade and shelter for somebody else, and it bears fruit that can be given [00:07:00] away, right?

[00:07:00] Mary: They say the best societies happen when a man plants a tree, or a woman plants a tree. So what that means for me, you know, when I think about that is it's so tempting to go, I want the weed speed, which is sounds like a whole other thing. Um, but I want, I want to grow that fast. Right. But if you zoom out, if you add in the variable of time, if you can see the whole timeline, what we would give up to have this flash in the pan, spike can be done.

[00:07:30] Mary: Whereas if you want to stand among Redwood giants, metaphorically as business owners and leaders, you have to be willing to realize that there's a reason Redwoods grow in a different timeline than milkweed. And if you can see it from that perspective, you would realize everything you would miss wishing for somebody

[00:07:46] Rachel: we all as business owners, we want to grow and we're constantly thinking about, you know, how do I get in front of new leads and how do I acquire new customers and all of that? But because I have a membership, I've also been forced to really think about retention and how do [00:08:00] I keep my members that I currently have?

[00:08:03] Rachel: Um, but I think it's something that's applicable no matter what sort of business model you have, because if you take really good care of the people who have already Invested in you who bought from you that does create a community that creates a community of people who will You know buy from you again who will tell other people about you And who will be so excited to share, you know their experience with using your product or your offer.

[00:08:29] Rachel: So It's just as important to focus on that customer experience on really delivering the value and making sure that they are so happy that they're getting value. Um, and they're, they're getting results from your offer so that you really create this really like amazing sense of goodwill where they want to stick around and they will, you know, support you.

[00:08:52] Rachel: Um, we've been so incredibly lucky with our members. Like we, you know, hot stock has been around for eight years and we still have from eight years ago. [00:09:00] You know, and, and they love it. And they're like, we'll never leave. Um, and that just means the world to me.

[00:09:06] Jessica: The, the reoccurring theme is like the fear, the fear, the fear, fear of failing publicly fear of cutting the umbilical cord, the safety net, the security that comes with working in nine to five, supposedly like just, there's so much fear wrapped into being seen.

[00:09:22] Jessica: And then. Not being accepted or not being successful. It is terrifying. Um, and I've had many versions of my CEO journey. I've been a, you know, I've had a marketing agency. I've been a speaker, road warrior on the road. I've had courses. I've had this. I've done so many versions of this. I'm like Madonna, I swear.

[00:09:38] Jessica: But every single time as exciting as it is, it's also equally terrifying. And that's this in between tension point that we have as, as business owners. Um, is constantly it's exhilaration and a terrifying roller coaster at the same time, which I think is why community is so important because you need your people to like, tell you that it will be okay when you're like at the peak of just, [00:10:00] you know, so yes, it's, it's still a journey, but fear is ever present. It's the adrenaline that, that pushes you through for sure.

[00:10:07] Linda: Having failures lead to the biggest breakthroughs. And so my biggest thing is to fail often because those are the times it's really going to transform your business. And you're really this close to actually having success. And you may not realize it.

[00:10:21] Linda: I know that the pain of a loss. Can actually be twice as significant as a win. So sometimes when you actually lose something, which by the way, I lost my business, I had to close my business down with a failed business partnership. And it was at that moment where I knew how hard it was to restart my business.

[00:10:40] Linda: And I really wasn't sure, but I decided to go all in and just to lean into my own strengths, listen to my intuition and listen to my gut. And it's going to work out like, and then actually six months after I made that decision to just go all in and lean into my strengths, I was having the best year and I was [00:11:00] even featured in Forbes. So you can make big things happen.

[00:11:03] Ellen: Everybody has a personal brand, whether you work for a company, you work for yourself, but your business is separate than you. Like you are the story. You're the emotional connect and your personal brand. If you're gonna remember anything I say, this is my belief. It's your value.

[00:11:18] Ellen: It's the story of your worth articulated, communicated and amplified into the market. If you can master that, you will be able to write your own ticket. Like you will be able to leverage that wherever you go for as long as you're you, which is forever. Real entrepreneurship is no joke. Um, but it is, I think the most amazing, um, rewarding journey you could possibly take. But I'm biased.

[00:02:03] Danielle Wiebe: And without further ado, let's jump in. Welcome to the Business Babes Collective Podcast. I'm your host, Danielle. We, in this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entre. So you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses.

[00:02:27] Danielle Wiebe: Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship. This idea of asking for help, especially when we're like type A, overachiever type of entrepreneurial women that asking for help, it's like all of a sudden it's gonna prove to the world that you actually don't know what you're doing and then all that imposter syndrome flares up.

[00:02:47] Marta: It's so interesting and that's been a huge lesson for me. I know you talk about sort of the power of community and to me that was like the moment when everything changed. It was like as soon as I understood that, like I can't do this on

[00:02:59] Marta: my [00:03:00] own.

[00:03:00] Marta: and that being a lone wolf is not sexy. It's not cool. Ask for support.

[00:03:05] Marta: I have a post-it note right here on my screen. It says, ask for help, trust, and let go. And I have to remind myself that every day because I, it's like, I don't wanna put anybody out. I don't wanna burden my team , who I'm paying to do the job. You know what I mean? It's like I still, I still find myself in that pattern.

[00:03:21] Marta: The breakthroughs are so

[00:03:23] Alex: many small moments and isn't it funny? It's kind of like, so sometimes you come to consciousness all of a sudden and it was always sitting in front of your face and it's this built by a thousand light bulb moments that happens over time. And so you attend conferences like this and people say small things and they start to kind of build together this entire puzzle piece for you.

[00:03:41] Alex: So I would say the, the process of education of learning. Seeking and then the ability for one day things to just kind of come together in one full beautiful picture as that official breakthrough that turns the tide towards action is what it says to me

[00:03:56] Steph: when I think about breakthrough. It's having the [00:04:00] mission and vision big enough that's going to allow you to stand in the.

[00:04:04] Steph: For the days that you're like, I don't know if I can keep doing this. Like I am on the ground right now and I don't know if I can keep fighting because this is going wrong and this is happening and all these different aspects of, of life are happening, but I, I continue to see. My breakthrough as everybody else's breakthrough.

[00:04:24] Steph: And so it's worth continuing to fight for. And so anytime that I'm like, okay, like I get to figure this out, , like I get to stand in the gap right now because I know that my breakthrough is your breakthrough. And I don't know about you, but as business owners, that's always worth it. It's why we do what we do so that you can stand on the ceiling.

[00:04:43] Steph: Of whatever I just went through, and even if it's just a couple of steps in front of you, um, I wanna make sure that I can help save you the ache, pain and the many tears later of coming throughout to the other side of it.

[00:04:58] Anita: Certainly in my [00:05:00] experience in my business, those breakthrough moments have always been.

[00:05:02] Anita: That time, and like when I say moment, it could be a week, it could be a day. It could literally be a moment, it could be a month, it could be a year. But it's those times when it feels like everything is just aligning and everything is flowing and you don't have to force anything. And it all feels really exciting.

[00:05:17] Anita: You feel inspired and you just, you want to work on your business. You're like, this is, this is it. This is gonna work. Or, or you've had something, you've tried something new and it's like it went better than you

[00:05:26] Danielle Wiebe: expected it.

[00:05:28] Steph: Probably in between around 2019 and 2020, I was in thick of growing the business.

[00:05:32] Steph: We were scaling as an agency, and I think if I'm to be real and vulnerable, I burnt the heck out, burn the heck out. It was not pretty. It was ugly. Lots of ugly cries, but I think this is what's what was interesting because on face value, like and also internally, the business was doing incredible. It was doing.

[00:05:48] Steph: Incredible leads we're coming in. We couldn't keep up with leads. We were booked up. So here I am being all like, why do I feel like this? Like I should be so proud and so happy with [00:06:00] where we're at. But why am I not, why am I starting to feel this ick? Why am I starting to feel this discomfort almost as though I have created a jail for myself and I'm being really real and honest?

[00:06:12] Steph: Yeah, that was a massive. Breakthrough for me. I took myself away, which I now do on a yearly basis. Solo retreat. I lock myself away without my husband and here , and I just sit there just by myself and I sit with my own thoughts, which is scary. But I also feel like when we do create the space and the time to really lean in and listen to ourselves and dial the external noise down.

[00:06:42] Steph: Oh my God, it's such a wonderful place to be in. And I think it was in that moment, Danielle, that I realized that I've been creating this business based on a success definition that wasn't even

[00:06:54] Marta: mine recently. A client of mine said something that you, uh, posted on social [00:07:00] media. Maybe I sent an out an email really stuck with me, and I think you should trademark it.

[00:07:03] Marta: And I'm like, all right, maybe I will. I said, I'm not special. I'm visible. So, There's something about me being everywhere and being very, uh, persistent with being everywhere that people really admire, and I want to make it a point in everything that I do to say that it's not because I have some special, you know, medal or I haven't won an Oscar, and that's why people are opening the doors for me.

[00:07:30] Marta: Obviously, the more I grow things become more accessible to me and people invite me more than I pitch to things. All of that, but. I had to start from scratch just like everybody else. And I think my story with coming from Brazil, having zero connections, like if I had wanted to do what I'm doing in Brazil, I may have had an easier time, so to speak, whatever that means.

[00:07:52] Marta: Cuz my parents are there. I mean, they have their own network. My dad is an entrepreneur, but that's not what I did. So, uh, I [00:08:00] feel like in many ways another breakthrough for me has been. that if other people can do what? So can I, you know, I have my own space back to my earlier answer. I have my purpose here and no one's gonna take that away from me, but myself.

[00:08:14] Marta: So it's that constant reminder that there's room for me. I can achieve it, it may take some time. Um, just the perseverance. And I think that's what I really want to continue helping women tap into is. You're gonna get there if you don't stop. That's

[00:08:31] Danielle Wiebe: just

[00:08:31] Shannon: the way that it is. First it was like a big hot mess cuz I didn't know what I was gonna offer.

[00:08:37] Shannon: I was sort of like catering all my offers to anybody and personalizing everything and quickly realizing that was like the quickest way to burn out. So like that's one tip I have already is like, get really clear about your offers and do what, like makes you happy. and what fulfills you because there's always gonna be people that are asking you to, to customize something or change something [00:09:00] around and no hard, no, but it essentially led to me being able to come up with just one-to-one coaching, creating a reels course and realizing that.

[00:09:12] Shannon: because of the broad depth of my experience, not just in marketing, not just in Instagram, let's say, but in finance, in startups, in product-based startups doing partnerships and business development and pr. I essentially have become, uh, a sort of like business coach as well. So I, I've found that when I work one-to-one with a client.

[00:09:36] Shannon: Yeah. Like the reason they hire me is to help them grow on Instagram and get more sales or launch. Let's say, but it ends up becoming this like hybrid thing where we start looking at their offer suite. We start looking at like their messaging. We start thinking about partnerships and strategic partnerships and PR opportunities and micro influencers.

[00:09:57] Shannon: And so it just becomes this whole beautiful [00:10:00] thing. And that's been a really unexpected sort of like learning from this, is that because of all of these experiences and all of these startups that I've worked. It's just like holistic. Yeah. Thank you, Brianna. That's the word I

[00:10:14] Marta: was looking for.

[00:10:15] Ellen: I think focus is the most underrated strategy that an entrepreneur can have, and I believe my best breakthroughs have happened when I got super, super laser focused on mastering one specific thing.

[00:10:29] Ellen: Even if that specific thing is maybe something basic, right? Maybe it's not earth shattering in terms of, oh, I've never heard this before, but it's about that again, that clarity. Focus and being able to remove everything else that is a distraction from achieving that. And so I think that's really what comes to mind when I think about all of my biggest business

[00:10:48] Makini: breakthroughs.

[00:10:49] Makini: I think very often, especially as women, we doubt ourselves. We doubt our capabilities, we doubt our stories, we doubt our worth. We doubt our [00:11:00] appearance. We doubt so many things, and at the end of the day, the world would not be the same place without you in it if you were not here. Danielle, not only. Would this event not take place, but us women would not come together.

[00:11:13] Makini: The women who are on here getting the solutions that they need to their problems, getting healing, getting all these things, they would not get that. At the end of the day, every single one of us is a blessing to this world. Sometimes we are in our own corner thinking

[00:11:25] Makini: that we are

[00:11:27] Makini: not who we would like to be or who we should be, but at the end of the day, This world would not be the same if we were taken from
