2. Balancing Presence and Ambition

  • Entrepreneurial minds often struggle with balancing ambition and being present in the moment.

  • While it's natural to have a constant flow of ideas, focusing on being present and content in the now is essential.

3. Productivity and Prioritization

  • With a busy life, it's crucial to prioritize tasks effectively to ensure you're working on what truly matters.

  • Implement systems to streamline your work, and make the most of your focused work hours.

4. Consistency and Attention to Detail

  • Consistency and attention to detail are essential for maintaining high-quality work.

  • Use tools and systems to avoid oversights, especially during challenging periods.

transcript

[00:00:00] Danielle: Welcome to another episode of the Business Babes Collective Podcast. I am your host Danielle Wiebe and I'm really excited for today's episode. Today is going to be a super vulnerable raw and real episode because Yeah, not very many people talk about their struggles so openly. And there are so many challenges and so many struggles and, um, things that you have to overcome as an entrepreneur, especially as an entrepreneur who is also building a family, who is a mom and attempting to quote unquote, do it all.

[00:00:40] Danielle: I don't believe that you should actually have a goal to do it all and I'll talk about that later in the episode, but Today I just wanted to kind of like break down the barriers and really talk about some of the things that I am currently struggling with as a business owner and mom of two. So the purpose [00:01:00] of this episode is not to have you feel bad for me at all.

[00:01:05] Danielle: It's not to say what was me. That is the opposite of what I want to do with this episode. I actually want it to be really inspiring to you. Not only because you will hopefully feel less alone in some of the struggles that you are currently having, but I also am wanting to share with you after I share my struggles and things that I'm going through right now, I'm going to be sharing what I am doing.

[00:01:31] Danielle: about these struggles and how I am actually moving forward and taking steps to help myself, right? So this is meant to be an episode that hopefully will relate with you and be able to allow you to feel less alone and then also to give you that maybe kickstart that maybe you need in order to frame your struggles in maybe a different way.

[00:01:57] Danielle: So if you have been [00:02:00] a long time listener of this podcast, most of my episodes are quite different from this. They're mostly workshop style episodes, tactical episodes that give you tips and strategies on how to scale a profitable business. And we also bring on really epic, inspiring guests who share their journeys of entrepreneurship too, but today is a little bit different and I'm going to be showing sharing what's been going on lately in my life, um, and in the business and give you just a really raw behind the scenes peek at, uh, just some of the things that I'm dealing with.

[00:02:35] Danielle: So let's go ahead and just. Dive in. Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably. We'll also interview seasoned entrepreneurs, so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale [00:03:00] their business.

[00:03:00] Danielle: Let's dive in. As we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy, challenging rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship. Okay. So let's go over the five things that I am currently struggling with right now as an entrepreneur and a mom of two littles. So number one is not having consistency or a routine. I'm sure probably many of you can maybe relate to this because the summer often just like shakes things up.

[00:03:35] Danielle: Maybe you're traveling or, uh, your kids are out of school or you just don't have a proper routine or schedule. For your life, and I know for me personally, I really thrive on consistency and I really thrive on routine. So right now and through the summer, we haven't really had much consistency or a regular routine and that's been [00:04:00] If I'm honest, super challenging and a lot of things are changing right now within our lives And within the business and don't worry.

[00:04:10] Danielle: I'm gonna give you an update soon and it's all good stuff So there's nothing going on that you should be worrying about at all. But it I'll just say it has been Very full. We have had a very full calendar, uh, with family things going on, with us traveling, with, uh, not having as much childcare. And, of course, as you know, we have the best little, little man, baby Max, who's joined our family.

[00:04:40] Danielle: He's four months old now. And we've got our two year old, Rosie, and so... There's just a lot going on and you know, Max is still in an age where he is feeding and I'm breastfeeding him and currently I'm still breastfeeding him every two hours. [00:05:00] So he is a hungry boy and actually sometimes it's even more frequently than two hours and I was not.

[00:05:09] Danielle: Super prepared for that. Rosie usually went about three hours, sometimes even four hours by this stage. So that is definitely something that we are navigating and I have just, yeah, found it challenging to basically figure out what my rhythm is, um, in my life as it currently stands with two little, little kiddos and also in the business because not having that consistent schedule.

[00:05:37] Danielle: Um, with child care has been definitely challenging because, um, I'm used to working about like 15, 20 hours a week, sometimes 25 hours a week, as I've talked about in previous episodes. So I do work part time, but I usually have that like super consistent time to really like work on the business and have those things that I can really [00:06:00] check off my list.

[00:06:01] Danielle: And recently that has not been the case. I've been getting like one hour here or one hour there or half an hour here, half an hour there. And so it has been a lot of task switching. It has been a lot of, um, starting a project and then finishing it, uh, later on in the day. And so a lot of start and stop.

[00:06:23] Danielle: And I think a lot of parents, especially if you're like stay at home parents, um, you can really relate to that. It's just, it is, it is somewhat. And so, um, I hate to use that word, but this just kind of the reality. And so, uh, yeah, I definitely realized that one of the things, one of the values that I have is routine and having some consistency.

[00:06:48] Danielle: I'm going to be talking about. Later, after I share some of the struggles that I've been having, how we are moving forward and what we are doing to be able to have a little bit more of that structure. So number two, being [00:07:00] consistent and present in the moment. So I am someone who is a big dreamer, a visionary.

[00:07:08] Danielle: I have a million ideas. I'm that are always just swirling around in my mind. I know a lot of you have told me that you can really resonate with this and it's really this entrepreneurial brain that's just always going. You have a lot of ideas. You have a lot of things that you want to accomplish and my brain just never shuts off and this can be really great.

[00:07:30] Danielle: Sometimes this can be awesome because I can really see the big picture. I can zoom out, I can think long term. This is also what really helps me serve my clients really well because I can think of ideas and I think of strategies of how they can scale their business. And so, you know, this has really helped me in growing the business.

[00:07:50] Danielle: However, what I'm constantly challenged with is being more present. in the now. And so especially recently [00:08:00] I have found it to be really challenging and just like being content and being present where I'm at because I'm currently feeling behind. And the reason I'm feeling behind is because I have felt like some balls have been dropped on my end because I haven't had the capacity, I haven't had the time to really be Diligent in some of the things that I'm doing, and I actually posted about this on my Instagram if you wanna check it out.

[00:08:29] Danielle: It's my, currently my most recent post and I talk about the reality of being a mom and on and an entrepreneur, and I just shared that, you know, I always feel like I'm being kind of pulled in a million different directions and I really want to be a present mom. I really want to be able to be in the moment and that is something that I'm always working towards and I know a lot of you who saw that post that I did on Instagram really [00:09:00] resonated with that.

[00:09:00] Danielle: And so. For me, I want to be able to, you know, put my phone away and just be with my kids and not be thinking about work, not be thinking about the business and actually just be there. There's this moment today, I think that really made me. Maybe take a step back and be like, okay, I just need to be here in the moment.

[00:09:21] Danielle: So today I went to the park with Rosie and with Max. Um, Max is in the stroller of course. And we were at the park and Rosie was on the swings. She absolutely loves the swings and she was just like loving her life. She was asking me to push her higher. And you could just see for those of you who have kids and you just look at your kids faces and you can just see that they're having so much fun.

[00:09:43] Danielle: It is like. one of the best feelings in the whole world. Just watching your kid soak in what's happening around them and have this big smile on their face. And, you know, she was looking up at the trees while she was swinging and the wind was flowing through her hair and it was just sunny outside and [00:10:00] beautiful.

[00:10:00] Danielle: And I just thought to myself like, wow, okay, this is such a small moment, but it's such a beautiful moment. Like, I want to be present. Two moments like this every day because there are such beautiful precious moments And not every moment is like that most moments are complete chaos, right? and that's why we like to get out of the house so that we can you know, let Rosie run around and Um, whatever she wants to do, but there are so many chaotic moments, but then there's those really, really special moments and I'm like, okay, I want to be present to that.

[00:10:35] Danielle: And I want to be with her in that moment. And so that is one of the things that I'm honestly really working on and that if I'm being honest, I do sometimes really struggle with, um, because sometimes I'm just super tired and I'm. And like counting down the minutes until, uh, you know, Brent gets home or, you know, we can have dinner and start the evening routine.

[00:10:59] Danielle: [00:11:00] Right. So that is one of the things that I definitely want to improve on. Okay. Number three, my third thing that I'm struggling with right now is productivity and prioritizing it. Things in life and things in business. So this has always been something that has been a huge value of mine, productivity and prioritizing the things that are most important in both life and in business.

[00:11:26] Danielle: Now I've talked about this on several different episodes before. Um, the importance of knowing, especially in your, in your business, obviously this is a business podcast and I always talk about knowing what is truly going to move the needle in your business. And so I recently did a podcast episode, it's episode 151, which is 10 ways to 10X your productivity.

[00:11:49] Danielle: If you want to go check that out, I'm going to link it in the show notes as well. And so all of the tips in there are super relevant and I totally geek out on this stuff, but I'm finding right now, [00:12:00] because I feel like our lives have been kind of like shifting and changing, not only with the amazing addition of our son, Max, but also just other things that, again, I'll share about very soon that I can't really share.

[00:12:13] Danielle: with, with you yet, but life just is super full right now and it can often feel like at the end of the day there are so many things that I just didn't get done. You know, there's doctor's appointments that need to be scheduled, there's food prep, like what are we going to eat tomorrow, um, what's Rosie's lunch going to be, organizing childcare, just like so many things that we're juggling right now.

[00:12:37] Danielle: So it just feels like the prioritization right now. So many things feel important that I'm having a hard time prioritizing. The most important things because I know that there's some things that just won't be able to get done that day And so I felt like even a few months ago like even after I think even after Max was born in the first few months I [00:13:00] still felt like I had a handle on things and I felt like I could prioritize properly prioritize properly But right now it definitely feels like whoa There's a lot of things that are just not getting done and that's okay Number four, the fourth thing that I am currently struggling with is consistency and attention to detail.

[00:13:22] Danielle: As many of you know, who have been a long time listeners of this podcast, I have been so proud of myself that I've been so consistent over the past couple of years of dropping episodes twice a week for you. And you may or may not have noticed, but we have actually gone from doing two episodes a week to one episode a week.

[00:13:43] Danielle: And that currently is what I can commit to right now. Now, that might change in the future. We might go back up to doing two episodes a week. By the way, I would love to hear your feedback. If you really loved having the two episodes a week, um, [00:14:00] let me know. Let me know if you love to hear me in your earbuds twice a week, or if you're like, hey, I actually, you know, have been using this time to maybe catch up on episodes that you didn't.

[00:14:09] Danielle: listen to before, but currently this is what I find manageable. And my number one priority as well in the business is my current clients, my current mastermind members, um, our students and our programs, making sure that they are fully taken care of and we are serving them at the highest level. That will always be my priority.

[00:14:30] Danielle: Um, so if anything has to, um, be shifted or if anything has to, like if any balls have to be dropped, if that makes sense, then it's going to have to be, you know, potentially content posting on social media or even this podcast, even though this podcast is honestly one of my favorite things that I get to do in this business.

[00:14:50] Danielle: Um, it still is obviously free content, right? So my priority has to be with our clients and our mastermind members and our students. [00:15:00] Um, That will always come first, another kind of funny thing, which hopefully you can maybe relate to is when it comes to attention to detail, I am normally not a attention to detail type person.

[00:15:13] Danielle: Like details are not really my thing. Again, I'm like the big picture visionary type person. Which is why I normally double and triple and quadruple check things before I send them out. However, this week, uh, we actually did a workshop. Some of you were on our workshop. So if you were on our workshop, um, thanks so much for joining us.

[00:15:35] Danielle: We did our breakthrough growth workshop, which was awesome. And what I actually did is I actually totally missed a specific detail that was super important, which was the date of our workshop. I had the wrong date in the confirmation email. Of the workshop. So when people signed up for the workshop, they got an email and it was the completely wrong date, wrong time, everything.

[00:15:59] Danielle: And so that [00:16:00] was super confusing, obviously for a lot of people. And so just little things like that have kind of been where my brain is at. It honestly feels like I'm running a million miles a minute. And so. Um, really it's just a good reminder to be able to like slow down and double check things before I send them out.

[00:16:19] Danielle: So that is another thing that I have definitely been struggling with has been attention to detail because I feel like my brain is just somewhat mush these past couple of weeks. Okay. Number five is another struggle that I've been having recently is just overall health and sleep. Now, Um, I will say I am so, so grateful that overall I'm a very healthy person.

[00:16:47] Danielle: I don't have any, um, like chronic pain or chronic diseases, so I'm incredibly grateful for that. I know there's so many people who struggle with that kind of thing. And if you are someone who struggles with that, um, I'm just so sorry that you [00:17:00] have to deal with that. And so this is not me trying to.

[00:17:04] Danielle: Compare or anything like that. It's just, this is my journey that I'm going on. So, I really want to start being more conscious of Not only what I am putting in my body, but also how I'm moving my body. When it comes to eating, I don't want to be restrictive with my diet, but I just want to be making healthy choices so that I can just feel really good.

[00:17:29] Danielle: And one of my other big goals is I want to be able to get stronger. I want my body to be stronger so I can Do the things that I want to do for those of you who know me. Well, you know that I love Sports, I love specifically Skiing actually I do both water skiing and snow skiing and so I want to be strong I want to be able to be healthy enough to do those things and do them well and not be totally sore So just [00:18:00] as an example, we actually just recently went water skiing And I was so sore the next day, like I feel like I got hit by a bus and it made me realize, okay, I want to get stronger, I want to be taking care of my body properly.

[00:18:17] Danielle: And I think the biggest reason that I don't feel like I'm in a good routine with this is because I know that I need better sleep. So, with a two year old and a four month old, it has definitely not been easy to get the type of sleep that I need just to function properly. And I know also that I'm such a better version of myself.

[00:18:41] Danielle: Like, how many of you know you are a better version of yourself when you've had a full night's sleep? And so, for me, I haven't been getting those full night's sleeps. Uh, Max is still waking up in the middle of the night to feed, and then he's been waking up super early as well. So, I've just been trying [00:19:00] to get to bed a little bit earlier, but again, it's been challenging because I don't know about you, but for those of you who have kids, maybe you can relate to this, is at the end of the night, you put down your kids to bed and then you're just like, ah, you have this space and you're like.

[00:19:18] Danielle: What am I going to do with my time? And to be honest with you, most recently I've just been like relaxing. I've been like catching up on things, um, scrolling my phone a little bit too much. And that is something that I want to get away from. I want to be more intentional with that time. I want to be either reading books or, you know, taking a bath and relaxing or, um, Um, going to sleep early.

[00:19:44] Danielle: And so that's definitely something that I really want to work on. So there you have it. Those are the five things that I am currently struggling with right now and yeah, it felt really good to share that. I hope that that [00:20:00] was encouraging to you that, you know, you're not alone, but now I want to share with you some tactical things because it wouldn't be a business babes.

[00:20:09] Danielle: Podcast without some tactical action steps that I'm actually taking to really just get unstuck here because I really want to move forward. I don't want to stay in the stuck place. I Thank you I have big goals. I have things that I want to accomplish. And so these are some of the things that I'm currently doing and that I'm going to be doing to get myself out of these challenges.

[00:20:37] Danielle: So number one is creating systems. Asking for help and outsourcing more. So if you, again, have been a long time listener of the podcast, you know that I love systems. There are a lot of systems that we had previously that now are no longer working for us with our new kind of schedule and now having two kids.

[00:20:59] Danielle: [00:21:00] And so there's a lot of things that are shifting and changing. So implementing new systems. It's going to be so, so important here. I lean on my friend and mentor Chelsea Jo for all things that, of that nature. Um, she has a really cool, awesome podcast, uh, called Systemize Your Life and that's definitely where I go to get all my systems.

[00:21:22] Danielle: So definitely podcast. It's It's really amazing. And she was actually a part of our virtual event back in June. So if you were a part of that event, you would have gotten to hear from her and learn from her. So systems is definitely one thing. And then another is asking for help and outsourcing more. So asking for help with things like childcare, uh, we hopefully will have more consistent childcare happening very, very soon so that I can get back to doing.

[00:21:52] Danielle: three to four half days a week where I actually have that time carved out and that space to have that really focused time [00:22:00] to be able to work. So I'm super craving that right now and I'm really excited to hopefully have that in the next few weeks. Another thing is outsourcing as much as possible. So even outsourcing things in our personal lives.

[00:22:15] Danielle: So we have set up grocery delivery and we've also set up We're currently doing hello fresh right now just to cut down the time that it takes to think about meals and think about food That has been really game changing for us. And then another thing that we're gonna be starting to do Very very soon, which I'm excited about is to have a cleaner come once every two weeks to just do like a deep clean of our apartment and I am So, so excited about that because man, it feels like all I do nowadays is just clean.

[00:22:51] Danielle: For those of you who have toddlers, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Um, okay. So another thing is hiring. So hiring [00:23:00] in the business, we have already. been taking some steps with that and shifting things around, shifting roles in the business and getting more support. I have known that we've needed to have more support for quite a while now.

[00:23:15] Danielle: And so we are finally taking action on a lot of those things. So I'm really, really hopeful that in the next several months we will be having a lot more support in the business. That will get me out of the weeds of a lot of the things and being able to focus on kind of the higher level things and also just moving the business forward.

[00:23:36] Danielle: Another thing that I'm doing is honestly just taking it one step at a time, focusing on what I can control instead of what I cannot control. So, for example, if child care falls through, I cannot control that, but I can control how I choose to problem solve, how I choose to potentially ask for help when that happens.

[00:23:59] Danielle: [00:24:00] So there's a lot of things in life that we can't control. Really what I'm trying to focus on is what are the things that I do have control over and how can I just take one step at a time, even if it feels really hard. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Another big thing is really what I'm doing right now is investing in coaching and accountability.

[00:24:22] Danielle: This one is so big. I believe so strongly in the power of having a coach, having a mentor, having accountability partners in your life and in your business. Being a part of masterminds, whatever that looks like. And for me, this means not only being a part of a mastermind and having accountability with other like minded entrepreneurs, but it also means having a one on one coach who understands where I'm coming from, who understands where I want to go and will help me push through some of these challenges that I've been having.

[00:24:54] Danielle: So this has been super huge in this season. And something that I'm going to be continuing to [00:25:00] do, um, especially when I'm struggling, I think sometimes we shy away from some of those things when we are going through a period of struggle, but that's honestly when you need to push into it even more when you are struggling.

[00:25:14] Danielle: It's like, okay, I'm struggling right now. I need help. This is what I'm going to actually invest in coaching accountability. whatever that looks like for you. And then lastly is just being grateful and being grateful for the incredible business that I've been able to build and one that is actually sustaining me right now, even though I'm not able to put as much into it.

[00:25:40] Danielle: it right now as I want to, it is still growing. It's still successful. It still has this momentum because of the steps that I've taken in the past. And so I'm just I'm so incredibly grateful for that and I'm so grateful to have a business where I can step away and I can be [00:26:00] present with my kids and I can just say, okay, well nothing is getting done inside the business today, but I can be present with my two amazing kiddos.

[00:26:12] Danielle: And so just focusing on being grateful and being present rather than feeling frustrated with. Maybe where things are at or what that looks like or not having a schedule. So that's one of the biggest things as well So that's it. That's all from me today. I hope this episode was encouraging to you I hope that this just gives you the ability to Take a sigh of relief if you have felt alone in some of your struggles that you've been having.

[00:26:44] Danielle: Hopefully it makes you feel less alone. And also, I hope it gives you some really tactical things that you can do and tactical ways that you can push through. So, There's a lot of things, a lot of exciting changes, like I said, [00:27:00] coming. There's a lot of things happening in our lives that I'll give you updates on very soon.

[00:27:05] Danielle: And then also a lot of changes within the business. All good things. Don't worry. So if you want to stay in the loop, then definitely go to our website and sign up for our VIP email list. That's where all of the updates will be sent. And while you're at it, you might as well sign up for our breakthrough growth workshop that shares how to gain exposure, how to build your momentum for your business, and how to create consistent cashflow so that you can step away from your business when you need and be present with your kiddos or whatever else is going on in your life.

[00:27:40] Danielle: Let me know if you enjoyed this more raw and real episode. It was really just from the heart and I know There are not a lot of people that maybe open up about their struggles and so sometimes I think it's just important to show up here and just share with you [00:28:00] that, yeah, sometimes life and business can be challenging and sometimes there's things that you're struggling with and that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with you.

[00:28:10] Danielle: It just means that you're human. We all have human moments. We all have things that we are dealing with and don't be ashamed of that. So thanks for tuning in. If you enjoyed this episode, share it with a friend, share it with your biz bestie.
