The Power of Planning and Collaboration: Lessons from a Dream Come True with our Founder, Danielle

Planning for Success and Visionary Thinking

Danielle emphasizes the significance of giving oneself time and space to plan and envision the desired outcome. By dedicating attention to details and the overall experience, entrepreneurs can create impactful events and offerings. The lesson learned is to prioritize quality over quantity and focus on delivering exceptional value to clients and the community.

Embracing Collaboration and Delegating

The success of the event was a result of a collaborative effort with talented professionals who excelled in their respective areas. Danielle shares her realization that trying to do everything alone limits growth and prevents a truly exceptional experience. Delegating tasks and working with experts allows entrepreneurs to focus on their core strengths and provide a higher level of service.

Disciplined Focus and Long-Term Vision

Danielle discusses the importance of disciplined focus and long-term vision for sustainable business growth. Instead of chasing short-term wins, she advocates for aligning actions with long-term goals and staying accountable to that vision. Sacrificing immediate revenue for future success and remaining productive in limited time are key aspects of building a thriving business.

[00:04:05] Welcome to the Business Babes Collective podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe. In this podcast, you'll learn tangible business tips and strategies on how to grow successfully and sustainably we'll, also interview seasoned entrepreneurs, so you can listen in on their stories and see behind the scenes of what it took to grow and scale their businesses. Let's dive in as we discuss the wild, exciting, crazy, challenging, rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.

[00:04:35] Taylor, I would love to hear from you. Tell us a little bit about you and your business.

[00:04:40] Taylor Aller: Hi, I'm Taylor. Nice to meet you through your ears. I am a multipotentialite, so that means I do more than one thing. I have a practice as a registered massage therapist. I'm a TEDx speaker. I do consulting one on one with business clients along with a whole bunch of other things like education and some creative pursuits. But, uh, the more you get to know me, the more you [00:05:00] find out that I do. It's kind of like a surprise.

[00:05:03] Danielle Wiebe: That's awesome. Tell us a little bit about your experience. Uh, obviously you were there on the day when we had VIP, with all the mastermind members. So tell us a little bit about what was your highlight that day?

[00:05:14] Taylor Aller: There's a few, but I'll narrow it down to my top two. The first highlight kind of has nothing to do with business, but, I obviously lead a very busy life, like probably all of you listening here too, and it was just so nice to have somebody else tell me this is the day that you are taking to not do anything else except work on your business and hang out with some really wonderful people.

[00:05:39] Because it's very challenging for me to carve that time out myself in my own calendar, in my own schedule because there will just always be other things that, I'm making air quotes, are more important than working on my business and, and frankly, that's just not true.

[00:05:53] Like my business can't run unless I take the time to invest back into it. And yeah, so that was a really big highlight that somebody else took that [00:06:00] outta my hands and was like, Here's the day, here's the time. This is what we're gonna do. Somebody else got to be the boss for a minute. When you're your own boss, that's really hard to do all the time. So that was a big highlight.

[00:06:09] And then the second highlight, which was kind of like my biggest takeaway too, to be honest, was that, I feel like I'm doing a really good job. I, if I can be really vulnerable here for a minute.

[00:06:20] Danielle Wiebe: You are.

[00:06:20] Taylor Aller: Most of the time I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. On the outside it looks successful and it looks wonderful and so many people approach me for advice and I work with clients one on one, you know, financially, we're super comfortable. You know, I've been doing business now for over a decade and I still, more often than not, feel like I have no stinking clue what I'm doing. And I feel like I'm not doing a good job. Like sometimes those voices in my head get really loud. And before the Mastermind, those voices were extremely loud.

[00:06:51] I had taken basically over a year off after having my daughter and I was terrified to kind of jump back into work. And I was just starting to do that and all [00:07:00] of those doubts and insecurities were so loud in my head, and a really big highlight for me was just to realize that those voices don't know what they're talking about and that I'm doing ok.

[00:07:11] That I'm doing a really good job and that things are, are moving way better than those voices think they are and, you know, that there's so much truth and evidence in the business that I've built and the people that I've helped, and I kind of forgot that. So it was really nice to have that kind of be brought back up again. It helped my soul in a lot of ways.

[00:07:29] Danielle Wiebe: That's awesome, Taylor, and thank you for sharing that because it's so true. Like I think, it doesn't matter necessarily like how much experience we have in business. It's just like those, we're always gonna have those voices in our heads that are trying to tear us down and make us not move forward on our goals and everything.

[00:07:46] So it's helpful to have just other people there to be like, wow, like you're doing great, and like others that are inspired by you, and you can be inspired by others. And I think that's the beautiful thing, what I loved about the day as well. Um, so is there [00:08:00] anything, an aha moment just from being like, Part of that day and being with all the other women there?

[00:08:06] Taylor Aller: I think there was, again, two ahas for me. The first one tied into what we just talked about.

[00:08:11] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah.

[00:08:11] Taylor Aller: Of like, Wow, I am, I'm doing okay and I, in fact, I'm doing better than okay. I'm doing really well and it's so nice to have other people confirm that for you if you're shaky on that. And that was really wonderful

[00:08:26] But the other aha moment was also how deeply rooted the relationships we've built in a mastermind are. Like, I knew that like we text each other, we call each other, we meet each other Every two weeks, we're in the Voxer, and some of these women I've known for years. And it just was so nice to be, after a pandemic, to get together in person and to realize how deep those connections go, because it's not only the business side, like it was fantastic.

[00:08:54] We were sitting around the table and there were aha moments everywhere. Someone's like, I never thought of that idea. Oh my gosh, I know this person. I'll [00:09:00] give you this contact. What about this? Raise your prices. Like it was just like bang, bang, bang. It was like lights firing in an amusement park. Like it was crazy. So there was all these like tactical ahas that were happening for everybody. But as I was watching that happen and like experiencing that for myself cuz they gave me such great ideas and wonderful advice for the next season of my business, which I'm so excited about.

[00:09:19] But the biggest Aha was like, wow. Like we actually have each other's backs. Like these are the people I can come to with scary big news. These are the people I can come to with really big problems. These are the people I can come to. And I'm like, this is what I need, how do I get there? And they just have all of those solutions for you.

[00:09:37] And yeah, that I think was the biggest aha moment is like, Wow, I know I have these women's back. I know I would do anything for these ladies. Like the, and most of them, like we email, we call, I'm like, Yes, what do you need? Yes. So you can have this. Yes. How much time do you wanna have out on my schedule? What resources, what connections? But it was just such an aha to realize that it goes both ways.

[00:09:59] And I think [00:10:00] often for women, particularly in business, it's a lot about competing with each other. At least that was my experience before finding your community many years ago, Dani, and it just over and over, I get that aha moment, but I get it most deeply and most profoundly from the Mastermind and I had it over and over again that day. So it was just really nice to know that people have my back and they're, they're celebrating me and they're helping me with the problems that I have and the challenges that I have coming up, and that I totally have their backs and I'm ready to help them with their challenges.

[00:10:31] Like that was just a really wonderful aha. Along with all the tactical ones of like raising your prices, changing your schedule, and adjusting this and that. This big goal we can reverse engineer and this is what we need to be able to have. Yeah, that was obviously huge for me. Yeah, it was awesome all around.

[00:10:44] Danielle Wiebe: That's amazing. Oh, I'm so glad. And I'm just so, yeah. I'm so grateful for the group that we have. It's just amazing. Like I just, everyone that we have in our group and everyone is just so willing to, to share and to give, and that is intentional. Um, that's why we have an application [00:11:00] process. That's why I'm popping on calls with whoever wants to join because I'm very protective of our group because everyone is just so willing to give, like you said, and so willing to help each other out.

[00:11:11] And, you know, we all, everyone in the group leads very, very busy schedules. Right? Like very, like you said, it's hard to carve out that time for, for working on your business, which is why having that time carved out for you to have those, you know, experiences I think is, is so powerful. So thank you for sharing Taylor. You're amazing. I'm super grateful so for you.

[00:11:32] Taylor Aller: So are you, and so is the group. Hi ladies, if you're listening, I love you. I can't wait for our next call.

[00:11:37] Danielle Wiebe: Aw, thanks Taylor. Alicia, can you introduce yourself, who you are, your business, and yeah. Tell us a little bit more about you.

[00:11:45] Alicia: Hi Danielle. I am Alicia. I am co-founder and one of the principal designers at AR Interiors. We are a interior design firm. We specialize in residential and commercial design, ranging from new construction [00:12:00] and renovations, uh, multifamily, residential units, as well as restaurants and boutique offices. And we are in the process of launching our interior design specification packages online to make accessible, our design more accessible to everyone. That's, That's it. That's, that's our business.

[00:12:21] Danielle Wiebe: So good. Can you share with us a little bit about like what the experience was like to be a part of the v I P day? What was your favorite part, I guess, of that day?

[00:12:29] Alicia: You know, there were so many great parts about it, and I think for me, being a part of the mastermind group, every other week we get to meet other amazing women online, but to actually be in person with everyone, Some were there virtually, but just to be in the same room and to really just feel that support business can be so lonely sometimes. And just to really support everyone, Everyone's everyone's biggest cheerleader in this group. And so that was, that was pretty great for me.

[00:12:58] Danielle Wiebe: I love it. And did you [00:13:00] have like an aha moment of the day or something that you just took away that was important to you?

[00:13:05] Alicia: I think for me the biggest aha moment was really just realizing how closely my personal, my business goals are aligned and how they can really support each other and, and coming up with a tactical plan, you know, for six months, for a year, and how to implement that was really exciting for me and just kind of injected a bit more energy into my goals and, yeah, just help me become more focused, I think, on, on what's really important.

[00:13:32] Danielle Wiebe: I love that. It's so good. And I think too, like that's the biggest reason why I wanted us to kind of start like big picture of like, Hey, what do you want for your life? Because often we can make these business goals and then it's like, Oh wait, we have a whole life that we're trying to create here, and that's kind of why we started our business.

[00:13:48] So I love that you shared that. That is so great. Thank you so much for sharing, Alicia. Well, Robin, I'm gonna have you go in next because you are Alicia's partner in business. So obviously we [00:14:00] already know what you do, so that's great. Um, but do you wanna share what your experience was like being at the VIP day?

[00:14:06] Robin: I think really similar to what Alicia said, it was just nice to see people in person, and it's just different and more personal being together in one room and discussing our goals and how we can support each other.

[00:14:18] Danielle Wiebe: So good. I love it. I just love how supportive you all are to one another in this mastermind group. It makes me so happy. So thanks for sharing that. Amber, I would love for you to share a little bit more about you and your business.

[00:14:31] Amber: Hi Danielle. Hi everyone. My name's Amber. I'm from a baby town called Invermere in British Columbia. I'm a mama to a 17 month old crazy little boy whose name is Kingston. I also have a four year old Bernese Mountain dog named Boulder, and I am the founder and owner of True Taste Cafe. So I created and sell the only allergy friendly Belgian waffles in grocery stores across BC.

[00:14:57] Danielle Wiebe: So good. I love that. What was your biggest [00:15:00] takeaway from the Mastermind day?

[00:15:01] Amber: Well, I have two favorite parts of the day. One of my favorite parts of the day was I felt so spoiled as, as a new mom and a business owner. The weight of the world feels like it's on my shoulders every day. So it was a day where we were taken care of, we got treats, we got champagne, we got a rooftop patio lunch. It felt so nice to just kind of be treated like that.

[00:15:23] And a favorite part as well was the fact that I got everything out of my head onto paper. It was a dedicated space to get out of my head and actually make a plan. Like step by step, this is what I'm going to do because the days get very busy and it gets eaten up with the day to day. So it was a favorite part of mine just to get outta my head.

[00:15:45] And then the biggest takeaway was just realizing actually how much I do need the support. I have done my business by myself from the ground up, and so many times I've done that exercise. I create a plan, this is what I'm gonna [00:16:00] do, and then when something gets sidetracked, I get stuck for weeks, months, and sometimes even years.

[00:16:06] So knowing now that I have and realizing that I have the support of this group was huge. Even this week, I jumped on calls like with Robin from Interior Design to help with my kitchen setup. I was texting back and forth with another one of the girls to get contact information for brokerage for importing in ingredients. So it's just knowing that I have that support and every week I can just reach out to anyone so I don't get stuck, cuz that is very defeating. So yeah, that's, that was my favorite part.

[00:16:36] Danielle Wiebe: I love it. Thanks for sharing, Amber. And I know we were talking about in the mastermind day, I remember talking about how when you're doing business on your own, you always Google everything. You're like, Okay, I'm just gonna Google this.

[00:16:47] Amber: The black of Google. And I'm like, Just cut me off from google and talk to real people who can actually help me. Google does not help me.

[00:16:56] Danielle Wiebe: Well, you get, you basically can have like anything on Google [00:17:00] if you wanna just prove your point, you can just like find an article that's gonna like prove that. So it's nice to hear like real life experience from other people who are in the trenches with you, building their businesses and all of that. So I love that. Thanks so much for sharing. So good. Um, Jen, do you wanna pop in, share a little bit more about your business and a little bit more about you?

[00:17:20] Jenn Orr: I'm the founder of Raising Humans co. A modern baby brand, um, that brings style and functionality together without sacrificing quality, sustainability, or community.

[00:17:30] Danielle Wiebe: So good. Okay. Well, tell us your experience with the Mastermind Day. What were your either aha moment or favorite part of the day?

[00:17:37] Jenn Orr: Yeah. For me, I feel like my highlight was just feeling reinspired and ultimately just having like the aura and the incredible environment with other amazing business women around me. And I feel like listening to other people's goals and the things that they're working through made me realize that I'm not alone and that I'm not the only one that's having [00:18:00] struggles or that I'm not the only one that's having particular issues. And I just love that we are able to bounce off ideas and share you the experiences that we've had to help other people grow to meet their goals

[00:18:11] Danielle Wiebe: I love it.

[00:18:11] Jenn Orr: Just move forward.

[00:18:12] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah. That's awesome. As you were talking, I was just like, I think my favorite part of the day was just like seeing all of you guys bounce ideas off of each other and support each other and be like, Oh, I have contact for you. Or like, Oh, I have like this idea for you. And that was just really cool for me to see.

[00:18:27] Obviously I see it within this group. All the time when we have our calls, but it was really cool. Like in person, you to, to each other, I need to connect you with this person. And that was just so rewarding, I think, for me. So, okay. Meredith, you were there virtually, so your experience is a little bit different. Can you share with us what, um, well first of all, tell us more about you, tell us more about what you do, and then share what your biggest takeaway was or what your favorite part of that experience was.

[00:18:55] Meredith: Yeah, so I'm Meredith McKenzie and I am the founder of Parallel [00:19:00] Wellness, which is a nutrition and counseling clinic in Beady in North Vancouver. And more personally, I work directly with women supporting them when they feel defeated from dieting and struggles with their body image to help reconnect them with their intuitive sense of their bodies on their eating and finding freedom from food.

[00:19:18] So, Highlight for me, on the VIP Day was I think like a lot of people have said, doing a business can really lonely. And then also I have a 10 year old, and so since, he's playing right here, since stepping away from business, when I had him to be home with him full time, it can feel very disconnective. Like I know that my business is out there. I know that it's thriving. I know that all my clinicians are doing really great work, but I'm stuck at home.

[00:19:41] And I love being home, but I also want to fulfill that side of myself. And so it felt really lonely being on my own. And so to be able to connect with other people that not only have experiences in working with their business, but a lot of people in the group are also mothers. And to see that at different stages in their lives, [00:20:00] they're able to get back and they have big dreams and things that they wanna be doing, um, the environment was just, Really supportive, even though why I was on a screen watching.

[00:20:08] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah. And obviously would've loved to have you there in person, but I'm so glad we were able to zoom you guys in and you're still able to participate in that way. So yeah, thank you so much for sharing.

[00:20:19] Meilani you were also there virtually, so yeah, your experience of course, was different. However, share with everyone who you are, your business, and then what was your biggest takeaway?

[00:20:29] Meilani: Absolutely. Well, I wanna say Danielle, first of all, I felt so pampered virtually. I don't know how that happened, but when I showed up, I really wasn't sure how a virtual event would go, but I felt like an absolute priority when it came to speaking and being connected to the other women and just feeling that same experience, even though I wasn't there. So, um, I just wanted to say thank you for that.

[00:20:57] Danielle Wiebe: Aww.

[00:20:58] Meilani: Um, like you said, my name is [00:21:00] Alani. I'm the founder and creator of Jax & Moonie, which is a dog accessories brand that specializes in innovative and creative products to connect you to your pup. Just a little about me, I'm from San Diego, but now I'm living in Tampa, Florida. and loving, loving the weather right now.

[00:21:18] Danielle Wiebe: Mm-hmm. So, so good. So what, Yeah, what was your takeaway of the day? Or did you, were you able to kind of see your goals in a new way? Or what was the biggest kind of aha moment that maybe you had?

[00:21:31] Meilani: So for me, I don't, I don't know what it is, but when, if I read something on Google, I won't believe it. But if I hear the same thing from someone else, I'll do it.

[00:21:41] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah.

[00:21:42] Meilani: So I don't know. I just connect so much more to people. So I feel like with the event, That was such a good feeling to feel like all of my questions were always unanswered of things that I weren't sure if I could trust from the internet or couldn't find on the internet or [00:22:00] things like that. There's just such that sense of community and understanding involved that just makes you feel like a breath of fresh air, really.

[00:22:07] So I would say that that was a highlight of my day, just learning from people in person and connecting, even though virtually for me, again, I still felt like a priority with, with the whole event. So, that was a highlight for me and a takeaway was simplified goals. Everything just became so much more clear and simplified and plan of action for going forward. It's just as a business owner really all you can ask for.

[00:22:39] Danielle Wiebe: So Great. Well, I'm really glad that you were able to join virtually and thank you so much for coming. Michelina, can you share a little bit more about who you are and your business?

[00:22:50] Michelina: Sure. My name is Michelina and I'm the owner of Karameller Candy. We're an online store of Swedish candy. This is [00:23:00] a new venture for me. This is, Seven months in the making for myself, Karameller Candy has been around for a while in Vancouver. There was a beautiful storefront in Yaletown for a few years, which I was a customer at quite often. And I loved the brand. I loved the, the product.

[00:23:21] I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to, to take it over. And so I jumped on that not knowing what I was doing at all with it, but I just knew that I wanted it and have been trying to figure it all out ever since, and still figuring out a lot of things along the way. I'm trying to figure out a thing or two about business.

[00:23:43] Danielle Wiebe: Well, I'm so grateful that you were able to join us for our V I P Mastermind Day because you came and like we talked about, We were together yesterday and we were talking about how you had no idea what you were signing up for.

[00:23:55] Michelina: Yeah.

[00:23:56] Danielle Wiebe: You saw it online and you're like, Hey, this looks fun. [00:24:00] And so you just sort of took a leap of faith and said, Okay, I'm gonna, I'm gonna come. So what was your highlight of, of the day?

[00:24:07] Michelina: Yes. Uh, you know, it completely was a leap of faith. I saw your post on, on My Karameller Feed and I thought, sounds kind of neat, not knowing really anything about you or the group, I just thought, Hmm, okay, let's, let's give this a try. And so I moved some things around. I arranged for pickup of children from activities and childcare, and I made it happen so that I could be there, and I'm super glad that I did.

[00:24:39] It was, It was just an awesome, eye opening day. The group of women that were there, super knowledgeable, kind, super helpful. I, I learned so much and I took away so much just from that one day that it, it's amazing. Like I have a notebook full of things that I could be, should be doing. [00:25:00]

[00:25:00] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah. So I love that and I, I would love to hear what was either an aha moment. Or a key takeaway maybe that you had?

[00:25:09] Michelina: For sure. Well, I think actually there was kind of two things that really stuck out to me. Number one, like I had mentioned already, it, it took a, a bit for me to actually make that day happen for myself. Just scheduling. And I kind of talked myself out of it a couple of times. No, I should be doing that or I should be doing this. But what I could see is that when I, I went there and I spent the day. It was so extremely productive, that I had some things I had to shuffle around and such, but it was so worth it because in that group of collective wisdom, I was able to figure out things that I had been modeling over and trying to do on my own for the past few months.

[00:25:53] And within, there was a couple of instances within an hour, so I had some [00:26:00] action plans and I actually had clear steps of what I had to do next. I got some contacts for different resources that I needed, and just like that, things were in motion that were kind of stagnant otherwise. So yeah.

[00:26:15] Danielle Wiebe: That's awesome. And it, I think sometimes it's like the perspective shift of working on your business instead of just in your business. Cuz like you said, could have taken that day and like, Oh, I have this big to do list and I need to be, you know, checking things off. And sometimes we have that mindset when, you know, you took the leap of faith to say, Okay, I need to

[00:26:34] Michelina: exactly

[00:26:35] Danielle Wiebe: surround myself with all these other women and really kind of like look at my business from a bird's eye perspective to see

[00:26:42] Michelina: exactly,

[00:26:42] Danielle Wiebe: you know, what some of these opportunities are.

[00:26:44] So that's awesome. I love that you did that.

[00:26:46] Michelina: Yeah. And just, just to add on that, the connected other takeaway from all was just the power of a group versus like being an individual business owner and trying to figure things out [00:27:00] on your own. And sometimes, I was hesitant to ask prior, didn't wanted bother people. I thought, maybe there's some things I should have known just on my own already. And so there was hesitation to ask for help, but it was just, it was really clear that day, just how powerful and resourceful a group can be. Yeah.

[00:27:21] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah. Oh, that's so great. And it's true. And I think like one thing that. That made me think of is that we assume, I think we talked about this actually during the mastermind day, is that we assume that we're supposed to know everything as entrepreneurs. We're like, Oh yeah, I need to know how to do all this stuff for my website. I need to know how to market myself. I need to know how to connect with new clients. I need to know how to negotiate. Like we just assume that we're gonna know all this and be at pros at it the day we launch our business, which is like the furthest thing from the truth.

[00:27:49] And we all have different skill sets and think it's important to realize that when we get together as a group, it, we're just so much more powerful together because we can share our different skill sets [00:28:00] and allow that to support our own businesses and then help other people too. So thank you so much for sharing. Andrea, I'd love to hear from you. So tell us more about you, your business, and what was your experience of the VIP day?

[00:28:11] Andrea Barr: Um, so my name is Andrea Barr. I'm a certified career coach and a strategist, and I offer support and solutions to parents through coaching and education to help them advance their careers without compromising their families. So, you know, there's that old adage that like, you can't have it all, I think you can personally. And so I've been doing that for myself. I've always helped friends and family members to do the same. And now I've taken my work as a coach to really niche down in that direction. So very inspiring work and really cool to be a part of the Mastermind with other moms as well, including Michelina and others, so, And yourself, Danielle,

[00:28:47] The day that VIP day was, was, Yeah, like Michelina or other people had shared, you know, it's just, it's a lot to make a full day happen. There's a lot of things in your business you have to pause, block out, making the family [00:29:00] side of things happen. And to get there, it was kind of just like a exhale moment of like, Okay, I'm here and this is for me and I'm here for others as well.

[00:29:11] But this is a real time to focus in. And a big highlight was just being in person with other like-minded, you know, really motivated individuals. It's amazing to be a part of the Mastermind that you lead and getting to have that support biweekly and through Voxer and through different channels and the ways we communicate.

[00:29:27] But there was something about that energy of being in that room together, which was amazing. Like I remember there was one moment you had us doing some solo reflection work. So I'm like scribbling in my notebook and I remember looking up for a second and everyone was furiously furiously writing in their notebook as well.

[00:29:42] And I was like, The energy here is just inspiring. Like it was vibrating. It was so cool. And you know, how often do we actually take that time to sit and reflect and have someone with a timer? You actually had a timer and you said go, and then the timer would go off and we would stop. Like it was so amazing and so productive from that regard.

[00:29:59] Yeah, and it just [00:30:00] reminded me the power of community, like you always say, and it actually really inspired me to wanna bring more in person workshops and retreat opportunities to my community and to those who are working parents to give them that time to pause as well. So that was a huge highlight for me.

[00:30:13] Danielle Wiebe: Ah, so good. I love that so much. And what, what for you is like a takeaway either tactically in your business, like an aha moment that you had or something that you got from that day?

[00:30:26] Andrea Barr: Definitely I would say that when I was reflecting on the day, I was really inspired to just continue doing what I'm doing. And I know in our work together, Danielle, when I've had coaching sessions with you, you've made the comment and it's really stuck with me that, you know, it sounds like you just need, you almost want a bit of permission or like, Yes, keep going. Like, Andrea, keep going. You're, you're doing the right things.

[00:30:47] You know, follow your intuition, you're doing the right things. And so it really was that additional reminder to just keep following my intuition and what that day really drove home for me was just the power of going slow to [00:31:00] go fast. I'm in a season of my business where I'm really working on the longer term strategies.

[00:31:05] I'm building a lot, I'm building on a podcast, things like that, through your guidance, and those are really almost kind of scary initiatives because they take a long time to build and you don't see the the revenue come back right away. But I think just being able to envision what that is going to create for myself, for my business, for my clients, and community.

[00:31:24] It just was reaffirming that this is that phase. You know, when someone's on a podcast telling their business story like this is that phase where I could either quit or I could keep going. And I'm gonna keep going and I'm on the right path. So that was, I mean, that's a huge aha moment and I think that's, this will be part of my business story for sure.

[00:31:43] Danielle Wiebe: Ah, I love that so much. And I, I really love that you brought that up because it's so true. We just really need that reminder that success doesn't happen overnight and often when we hear those stories, it's like, Oh yeah, and I struggled with this and I struggled with that. But [00:32:00] we're hearing those stories and of course, because you know, an episode, usually have a podcast or a YouTube or whatever it is, it's an hour or less.

[00:32:07] So they're telling their entire story within that time. But you have to realize that journey was like a 10 year journey to like get them to where they were, maybe even more sometimes. And I, I'm so excited for you and all the things you have going on. So thank you so much. Thanks for joining us and thanks for sharing.

[00:32:27] Andrea Barr: Thank you.

[00:32:27] Danielle Wiebe: Um, okay, Hannah, I am super excited to hear from you because. Got to experience the day, not only from kind of a behind the scenes perspective as part of the Business Babes team and taking photos, which were beautiful. If you guys have not seen the photos, go check them out on our Instagram.

[00:32:44] They're fabulous. But can you share your experience, both from behind the scenes, but then also you got to experience the day as well? So tell us about that!

[00:32:53] Hannah van Zanten: Hello, my name is Hannah. As Danielle said, I, I work with her team at Business Babes. [00:33:00] I started working with Danielle when I actually moved here from the States, got connected to her through my husband, and if you ever want to get connected in a city, volunteer! And yeah, I got to weasel my way into Business Babes by volunteering, and then Danielle brought me on the payroll and it was really great. And so I've been doing a lot of behind the scenes stuff with The Business Babes for a couple of years now.

[00:33:27] And then, uh, came a bit of a turning point in my life recently where I started being challenged to pursue some dreams of my own, which is very exciting. And I got to join this day as somebody who's very much in the beginning stages of building a business, and if you know Danielle, you know somebody who champions people at all costs and she knows a little bit about this business that, uh, my husband and I are building out, it's an all inclusive elopement package for Vancouver, and one of the [00:34:00] things that I'm developing is photography.

[00:34:02] And she, uh, said, Hannah, why don't you just come and, you know, be a fly on the wall and, but also like, take some pictures, get a chance to stretch a little bit and flap your wings as a photographer. And I got to do that, which was really great. And so that's a little bit about me. Uh, the day itself was really, really, really amazing.

[00:34:25] Like I, I felt at the beginning of the day when everybody got there, everybody came in and they knew they were with a group of people who were there to support them and who were there to uplift them and there, and understood a lot of the challenges that they were bringing to the table, and able to come up with solutions and spitball back and forth amazing, amazing things.

[00:34:48] I think a huge highlight for me was being able to see, like for somebody who's very much in the business building aspect right now, being able to see all these women with [00:35:00] huge goals and they're actually totally attainable for every single one of them. That was really amazing and seeing context for the connection that was happening, if that makes sense.

[00:35:11] Like there was a lot of vulnerability on this day as well. Like there were tears, there were laughter. And being able to see that people were able to bring things vulnerably to the table, like we're talking numbers, like we're talking, women talking, here's how much is in my savings here, how much I have to spend. And that total openness was just incredible to me because they were able to form goals and build more vision for their future, which was really cool.

[00:35:37] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah, and I love that our mastermind is so open about those things, and I know that was like the vision of what I wanted for this mastermind is, all the conversations that happen within these days, but then also like within the Mastermind calls are all confidential and kept within the group, as far as like the numbers go and the specifics of people's businesses. And I think that that is so cool because it creates this like really safe [00:36:00] environment where people feel open.

[00:36:01] Hannah van Zanten: Mm-hmm.

[00:36:02] Danielle Wiebe: to share, like you said, those specifics and those numbers. And people are also like super open to share their challenges and then to also share like, Hey, this really worked for me or this didn't work for me. Or here's a connection that, that I have that might be helpful for you as well. And so, yeah, I think that that you said, Hannah, I'm so grateful that actually the members of our group are so open and really, like, I always say this to our group, our group wouldn't be what it is without each person having that,, not only collaborative mindset, but also the open openness and the vulnerability mindset, because I can't force that on anyone. Like it just has to be what

[00:36:41] Hannah van Zanten: mm-hmm.

[00:36:42] Danielle Wiebe: the person coming to the table is willing to do. And I know like it takes a while. Like even when we have new members, it's, hey, they have to like sit in on a couple hot seats and they're like, Oh, okay, we're talking details, we're talking specifics. And then they're like, Okay, I can open up too. And I think the vulnerability inspires more vulnerability, which is really cool. What was a [00:37:00] takeaway or an aha moment or anything that you had? A, again, you can either share on a perspective of you actually being a part of the day and working the day, or as kind of a participant as well, because you're a little bit of both that day.

[00:37:12] Hannah van Zanten: Yes. I, I, I loved it. Well, there's so many. That's the thing is there are so many. Amazing takeaways and aha moments. I think for me, being somebody who has been working within Business Babes for a while now, but has never, I've never sat in on the Mastermind. This is the first time it is like pulling the curtain back.

[00:37:29] Like I've talked about the Mastermind to other people. I said, Oh, this is what the Mastermind is, or written the emails for the Mastermind or things like that. And so it was cool cuz I just got to go in and the curtain was pulled back and I got to see what it was all about. And for me, On a overall arching thing that I saw was there is so much power and support and community, i, no matter where you are in your business.

[00:37:56] Cause like there's one woman who's just like, [00:38:00] she is like punching things and she's going, but she comes to the table, she's like, I am struggling with imposter syndrome, and I'm just like sitting there who's as somebody who's in the beginning of her business and who's in the dreaming stages and building out packages, and I see this person who's just like, yeah, I struggle with imposter syndrome and I'm just like, You're actually making money. I don't understand.

[00:38:20] And that is incredible to me that, that, that was a huge takeaway. And when we were doing the goal setting section, I was, it empowered me to write down goals that felt impossible for, for me, and actually make them tangible. And then at the end, something that has just stuck with me is we're leaving and we're about to go to the Rooftop Delicious lunch that Gather put together for us.

[00:38:47] And we're getting on the elevator and, uh, a man kind of gets on the elevator with us and he's like, Oh, what is this? A group of models? And Danielle goes, Oh no, we're a group of business women. We're female entrepreneurs [00:39:00] and we all have our own businesses. And I was just like standing there with Danielle like, I am, I'm a female entrepreneur.

[00:39:05] I have my own business. And it was just amazing to be like, Actually, yes, that's true about me. And there is, I'm standing. And Danielle didn't say, Oh, and this is the person that's been kind of helping behind the scenes. Like she was just like, Oh yes, collectively we were all, and that to me was such an empowering and powerful moment because I was just like, yes, absolutely.

[00:39:28] Danielle Wiebe: I love that. So I love that. Well, and I love what you said there, Hannah, because I think, like you said, it doesn't matter if you are just getting started in your entrepreneurial journey or if you are 10 years into business, at every step of the journey there, there is that imposter syndrome that comes in.

[00:39:43] Um, and I think a lot of us, we have this, Oh yeah, I'm kind of doing this on the side. Or like, Oh yeah, I have this like little business. Or we try to almost downplay it for whatever reason.

[00:39:52] Hannah van Zanten: Yes.

[00:39:52] Danielle Wiebe: Because we, we don't feel confident enough to own what we're doing.

[00:39:55] Hannah van Zanten: Yes.

[00:39:56] Danielle Wiebe: And so, you know, I think any opportunity that you have to even just like [00:40:00] practice that, of like owning that you are a business owner, that you are a podcaster, that you are a blogger, that you are a photographer, whatever you're doing, whatever product or service you have is like you are doing it. Like you have the business, you're doing it. So own it and speak as if you are a million dollar business owner already. Even if you are just getting started and you haven't made a penny yet. Well, thank you so much Hannah. Appreciate you. I appreciate you.

[00:40:25] Andrea Barr: Okay. Danielle, I think we all wanna know what your highlights and aha moments were from the day.

[00:40:30] Danielle Wiebe: Man, this is such a hard question because honestly, this was like such a dream come true for me. Just the fact that this happened was a dream come true, and I have literally been thinking about doing something like this for over three years now.

[00:40:45] Like it's been a dream of mine. It's been something that I've been thinking about and trying to figure out how do we do it. And of course, with 2020 in the pandemic, we were not able to for, for the longest time. And for someone who started this business as like an in person [00:41:00] community, like many of the women in our masterminds say, like the powerful thing about having the calls and like keeping connected is that we can have those really awesome relationships online.

[00:41:10] And I am so grateful for that. Like, I am so grateful for things like Zoom for, you know, programs where we can stay so connected and we feel like we know each other. We feel like we've met in person, even though like, you know, some of us have haven't. But there is something so powerful and so different about like getting together.

[00:41:26] And so I definitely want to make this a regular thing of a part of the mastermind, of having those in person meetups and experiences because there's something just so different. Because one of the things that I think I took away from it is like, yes, it was like a very structured day and we had the plan and of ever how everything was gonna kind of work out.

[00:41:44] The thing I loved the most was the little side conversations that happened, like when everyone showed up. For example, you know, two people talking together and you know, sharing their experiences to one another and just some of those side conversations they weren't even a part of, you know, the experience of being a [00:42:00] part of the day.

[00:42:00] But I think those are really, I think some of the people's biggest takeaways, and I know like I saw people writing notes on their phone and someone being like, You should do this, you should do that. Hey, I have this connection for you. I have that connection for you. And that to me was okay. Like this day has already been a success and we haven't even started yet.

[00:42:19] So that was a huge thing for me. And then the fact that everything sort of came together, obviously we had the amazing people that made this event happen. Gather events, cocktails and canapes, pavilion, cowork, just the amazing collaborators that we were able to work with for this event that just made it such an incredible day and experience, and it just goes to show. And of course, Hannah doing the beautiful photography and behind the scenes things.

[00:42:45] And I think it just is a such a great reminder to me that you cannot do everything on your own. Because I will tell you, If I tried to do this three years ago when I first started dreaming about it, I'd be like, Yeah, I'm gonna do the whole thing. I'm gonna bring my own food. I'm gonna like do [00:43:00] like, set up everything like super early in the morning. And then, so the fact that this was really truly a huge collaborative effort to make this day happen was a huge aha moment for me and me letting go of some of that controlling, needing to be a part of every, every aspect of the event.

[00:43:19] Handing that over to professionals who are much better at it than I am was really, really cool for me and I'm so excited to continue to collaborate with people that we did for this event and other, other businesses going forward when we have these opportunities in the future. And I'm so grateful just for all the Mastermind members and how they showed up to the day.

[00:43:38] I think that was another huge takeaway, was like, Wow, this is truly an incredible group of women and I am so inspired by each one of them and the journey that they're all on in growing to their goals. And so, yeah, those are my, I don't know, whatever 10 takeaways, from the day.

[00:43:56] Andrea Barr: I wanted to say. I'm glad that you brought up the, the team effort that went in behind it. [00:44:00] Cause I was gonna say your essence and the way that you showed up to the day was kind of like that of a very calm, chill, open dinner party host.

[00:44:09] Danielle Wiebe: Yes.

[00:44:10] Everything was organized.

[00:44:11] Hannah van Zanten: Yes.

[00:44:12] Andrea Barr: You weren't bustling about sweating.

[00:44:14] Hannah van Zanten: Mm-hmm.

[00:44:14] Andrea Barr: You were present in the moment with us and all these things were happening behind the scenes that we had no idea about. We walked up to the pavilion rooftop and this unbelievable long table. Lunch had been set up and you had been with us the entire time. So

[00:44:30] Danielle Wiebe: yeah,

[00:44:30] Andrea Barr: it was incredible for that. And I guess for anybody who might be launching something big or working on something that feels really big, like what were some of the things that you did in order to make that day go as smoothly as it seemed like it did from our perspective?

[00:44:44] Danielle Wiebe: Yeah, I mean obviously a huge, and thank you for sharing that, that because that was the goal that I would be just like present and not have to stress about like the behind the scenes things. But I think the big thing that I would say is give yourself that time to plan, [00:45:00] so I think the biggest thing that, I've talked about this on the podcast before, just about how I was working, um, pre pandemic to post pandemic.

[00:45:08] And pre pandemic, it was very, okay, like we're doing one event per month. It was a constant doing all the time, doing, doing, doing, doing. And yes, I had these, like long term goals and visions. I, I actually had wanted to start a podcast years and years and years before I actually did. And I actually took the pandemic for me to be like, Okay, now's the time.

[00:45:28] But really take that time to plan and take the time to really vision like not only nwhat aspects of whatever you're creating is. So for me, of course, as the event, it was like, okay, what? How do I want it to feel? What is the schedule for the day, hour by hour? What are we doing? And really that like pre-planning and giving yourself that time and that space to actually plan it out really well.

[00:45:54] Because then there could be little details that can be added when you're just trying to just throw something [00:46:00] together overnight, you know, you can make it happen. We made, at least one, if not two events happen every month for five years of our business. So we made it happen. But if we were to maybe do less events but do them better, I think that's really now what I'm looking to do with the business.

[00:46:16] It's like, how can we actually do less but do it better? More v i p experience for people, Right? And so that's kind of where I'm at as a business owner right now, is trying to figure out how can we do everything to the best of our abilities and, in order to do that, we actually have to be doing less, not more.

[00:46:35] So that's what I would encourage anyone is give yourself that space, plan it out, and then yeah, hire people and collaborate with people, and work with other people that are really good at what they do, probably better than you are because you, you can try to do it all, but it's, it's not going to be the same experience for, for your clients or for your community. So

[00:46:57] Andrea Barr: I have no doubt that you could put together an [00:47:00] incredible charcuterie board. However, the one that you, the ladies set I've, that you hired who are clearly experts, it was incredible.

[00:47:08] Danielle Wiebe: Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. And I think it's like one of those things where it's like you have to have that CEO perspective of your business. And that's I think something that I've really, truly, and that's really only something that I feel like I've started to really step into over the last couple of years. Because, before that, it was just trying to make every month work and not really thinking as long term as I do now.

[00:47:32] And I think, I mean, I think it does happen when you start having a family as well, cuz you're like, Okay, I have these other priorities that I need to, um, attend to and I have way less time to work in the business now. And so now I'm like, okay, the time that I do have have, how can I be as productive as humanly possible in that time and what am I focused on? Am I focused on things that are just like short term wins that maybe make me [00:48:00] feel good in the moment? But that don't actually produce the result that I'm looking for long term.

[00:48:05] And sometimes that means sacrificing the revenue upfront in order to have that longer term vision. So it's just really, yeah, almost being disciplined to not look for those quick wins as, for someone who has, you know, squirrel brain sometimes, and I, you know, get distracted by shiny objects. It's really, it's, it's a challenge for me to really stay focused on like the goal.

[00:48:28] And so, um, staying disciplined and having that accountability is really, really key as well. Thank you for asking those questions, and you are gonna be a fabulous podcaster. I'm so excited for your podcast.

[00:48:40] Andrea Barr: Oh my gosh. Thank you. No, that was so, Ugh. Good wisdoms in there. Love it. Mm-hmm.
