transcript

[00:00:00] Danielle: Today on the podcast. I want to talk about something that has been on my mind a lot lately, and that is about how action creates clarity. And the reason I want to talk about this is because has many of I do a lot of coaching in my business, both one-on-one coaching. And also group coaching and something that comes up again and again, is that my clients really want to have clarity before they do something new.

[00:00:29] Danielle: Whether that's launching a new product or service, or maybe they're wanting to create passive income with an online course, or maybe they're going to be hiring or building their team, or maybe hosting their first event. And I totally get this because I definitely want clarity when I'm doing something new.

[00:00:50] Danielle: But what I've realized over my 10 plus years of working for myself and being an entrepreneur. Is that the only way you can actually [00:01:00] get clarity is by taking the action. And I was really reflecting on this because

[00:01:07] When I was in a mastermind once. I heard from someone in the group. And they said to me, Danielle, You are an action taker. You just take action without thinking. Without overthinking. And it really made me take a step back. And it's really funny because as many of you know, we have a program called action takers club. So obviously there's some.

[00:01:35] Synchronicities there, but. It really made me stop and think about, okay, is this, I kind of thought this is normal. Like, This is how most people operate, but then I realized that. The reason that I take action without overthinking is because I've learned how to do that. It hasn't come naturally to me, it's not like when I first [00:02:00] became an entrepreneur, I just was an action taker. I'm definitely a hard worker. I think that work that is in my blood because both my parents were hard workers.

[00:02:10] But I also struggle with focus. I have so many ideas, swirling around in my brain. And I'm sure many of you can relate to this, but I often have trouble focusing on one task at a time. And I tend to bounce from task to task. And so I have to put systems in place and boundaries in place so that I can actually be super efficient with my time.

[00:02:31] But that is something that I've learned. Over these 10 years of being an entrepreneur. And really failing and I'm making mistakes and wasting so much precious time. That I've learned how to be more effective and efficient with my time. And I've also learned. To not let perfection hold me back in those areas.

[00:02:52] And

[00:02:52] Danielle: there are moments where I want to hold myself back because I'm worried about what other people [00:03:00] will think. I'm worried that it's not going to be perfect. I'm worried that I'm going to fail publicly. I'm worried that I'm going to if I take a big risk, maybe I will.

[00:03:10] Danielle: I lose money or, there's all these fears that come up and I'm human. I have all of those fears too. However I've learned to take action anyways. I feel the fear, but I still take the action. And I think that is where the magic lies.

[00:03:33] An interesting example of this is when we hosted our first ever in-person conference, which we did this March. So as you well know, we've been hosting events for over eight years now with our community, but this was the first time ever that we hosted a full day conference. And we actually did a full recap on episode 1 54, where we brought on the team and we talked all about [00:04:00] hosting the dream big conference that happened on March 10th.

[00:04:03] And that conference was actually put together within five weeks. So to give you some perspective, most people spend. Almost a full year planning a conference. So I'm not saying go out and plan a conference in five weeks. But what I am saying is that it is possible because we did it and we had 200 people in that room within the five weeks from starting to plan the event, booking the speakers, booking the venue.

[00:04:35] Promoting the event, putting all the vendors together. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere, all the things, the printing. All the things that go into an event and we're able to pull that off in five weeks. And I'm not saying that to say. Look at me and what I've done, actually I'm saying the only reason this was possible is because one.

[00:04:59] I've [00:05:00] learned how to make quick decisions. And two is collaborating and working with people. Who can come. Alongside me. To compliment my weaknesses in ways that I'm not strong. I bring people along so that we can carry the vision forward. I am a visionary person. I am a big picture thinker. I'm a dreamer.

[00:05:25] I am an action taker as well. And so I need people around me who are super detail oriented. I need people around me who think about the timelines of things and how everything's going to work together. And the reason I share that with you is because I just want you to be encouraged that if you right now are holding yourself back because you want things to be perfect.

[00:05:52] I wanted us to encourage you to take messy action. Because when I first started this business, when I first started hosting these [00:06:00] events, There were so many flops. There were so many times when we would host event and we wouldn't make a profit or we'd host event and we would not have the turnout that we wanted.

[00:06:11] And so in it's intaking that messy action, it was in willing to fail.

[00:06:18] And I still do fail. I still take big risks. I still get rejected. I still go for things and don't hit them. I set these big goals, and we don't hit those goals sometimes. And so I do still have failures in the business, but the difference is that I don't let those failures.

[00:06:37] Keep me stuck. And I don't let them stop me from moving forward. And so I wanted to ask you. What if you were willing to be bad at something. What if you were willing to embarrass yourself? Potentially publicly in front of people. What if you were willing to fail? I was reading a book [00:07:00] to my daughter, Rosie.

[00:07:01] That she got for her second birthday. It's called Rosie Revere engineer. And now it's not written specifically for her, but it's a great book. I highly recommend it.

[00:07:11] But I wanted to read a short snippet of this book because I think it's a really good lesson for all of us. So the backstory. Of this book is that Rosie in the book wants to become an engineer, but she has several failed attempts at her inventions. So she's getting really discouraged and she believes that she will never become an engineer.

[00:07:32] So I want to leave you with this quote from the book, because I think it's so relevant to us as entrepreneurs. She turned around to leave, but then great aunt rose grabbed a hold of young Rosie and pulled her in close and hugged her and kissed her and started to cry.

[00:07:49] You did it her way. It's the perfect first try. This great flap is over it's time for the next young Rosie was baffled embarrassed, perplexed. [00:08:00] I failed said, dear Rosie. It's just made of trash. Didn't you see it? The cheese copter crashed. Yes. Said her great aunt. It crashed. That is true, but first it did just what it needed to do before it crashed Rosie. Before that it flew.

[00:08:18] You're brilliant. First flop was a raging success. Come on now. Let's get busy onto the next. She handed a notebook to Rosie Revere who smiled at her aunt as it all became clear. Life might have its failures, but this was not it. The only true failure can come. If you quit. Isn't that awesome. I absolutely loved that those two pages of the book.

[00:08:42] I was just like, wow, that is such a great. Lesson for all of us. So I want to leave you with that. And I also want to invite you again to come to our workshop that is happening. If you are listening to this. Podcast episode in real time. It is [00:09:00] today. It's happening today, Thursday, July 14th at 4:00 PM PST. If you can join us live, though, it's going to be so much fun and I'm going to be answering questions and it's all going to be live. We're going to be diving into how to gain exposure for your brand and your business.

[00:09:30] Through the power of strategic collaborations. I'm going to share with you the exact strategies that we have used with our community. And one that we have used to add over 4,000 potential clients to our email list. In this year alone. Unlike a lot of other approaches which require investing in advertising to grow your email list. I'm spending a lot of money.

[00:09:54] This is actually a way that you can build your email list while generating [00:10:00] revenue. So we've been able to do that. We've made over $10,000 in revenue just by growing our email list. So it's pretty cool that you can do that rather than spending money actually making money while you grow your community. And while you grow your list. So I'm really excited to talk about that. I'm also excited just to share a little bit more about my journey.

[00:10:23] And what we've been doing over the past several years, how we've pivoted what our business model looks like now. And then how you can implement that into your own business, whether you have a product based business, whether it's service-based or an online course or membership community, regardless of what your business model is.

[00:10:43] This w this strategy actually can be implemented for your specific business. And we can talk about that today on the workshop. So I'm excited to chat all things strategy. In the workshop today, 4:00 PM. PST. Come join us and I can't wait to [00:11:00] see you there. So bring all your questions and I can't wait to connect with you. So I hope you enjoyed this episode.
